Feb 18, 2016 5:10 AM in response to simondpbby Jonathan UK,Hi - try these steps:
- On your iPhone in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - check that this is turned on.
- Check that you have set up the Activity app on your watch:
- Tap on the Activity rings complication on your watch face or go the Home screen (via a single press of the Digital Crown) and tap on the Activity app icon (coloured rings). (If you have not yet set up the app, you will need to enter some personal information).
- Check that your personal information is accurate:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Health.
- Check and, if necessary, edit your birthdate, gender, height and weight.
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness:
- Turn both Heart Rate and Fitness Tracking off (or turn them on, if they are already turned off).
- On your iPhone, close all open apps (including the Watch app):
- Double-click the Home button, then swipe up on each app preview until all apps are closed.
- Restart both devices, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:
- To turn your iPhone off: press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears; drag it to turn off. To restart, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
- To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off. To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
- If you turned Heart Rate and Fitness Tracking off in step 3, return now to those settings and turn them on again.
- When exercising on the stair stepper, ensure that your watch is worn snugly on the top of your wrist.
If the issue persists, it may instead help to unpair and re-pair your watch. The Watch app on your iPhone takes watch backups automatically, including a fresh one when unpairing via the app. Choose to restore the watch (Restore from Backup) when offered the option during set up. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).
