Q: El Capitan is rubbish

Since downloading this new operating system my computer seems to be slower than ever before. Whenever I clear out my cookies  - as I have always had to do to keep the dratted computer from crashing - and try to get back online, Safari tells me every time without fail that I am no longer connected to the internet and I have to go over to Firefox (which works first time - every time incidentally)  This morning I have now discovered that my version of Logic (Logic Express 9) doesn't seem to work with this operating system and has crashed 4 times out of 4 attempts to open a new file.

Perhaps Apple could come along and tell me in simple terms without any techno gobbldegook why this is happening, or is it as my cynicism would lead me to believe yet another attempt by Apple to part me from some more of my hard earned cash to upgrade my Logic and/or entire computer system. ?

As great as I think apple products are I have rapidly become VERY disillusioned with Apple the company's mercenary games to make themselves ever richer and if windows wasn't so rubbish I would seriously consider going back to it.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Thank you everyone (especially the original poster)

The malware made the computer a bit easier to manage to get my job out. I checked TimeMachine - everything I need is there. I've bought a Samsung SSD drive - and it will be installed on Monday.

Thank you for being such a wonderful community.

In addition to pinkstones recommendations uninstall:

->the Seagate Helper Tools which installed several items that always cause problems

with OS updates.  Also, such items are not required and only cause headaches.

->Disable or remove all the Tech Tool Pro drivers and tools.  More stuff that just bogs down the

       system.

->Also remove the WD driver stuff.  Again, there is no need for special drivers for any hard disk

and manufacturer stuff will usually bork a system at some point.

First update killed my macbookpro's ability to recognize an external monitor.

This was something that was working for years .

Then 10.11.3 destroyed all my imap accounts on my macmini.

It also destroyed the ability to add a new google email account.

And, yes i have tried all the voodoo with pram and prom reset stuff---

So, i no longer use my mackbookpro and i quit using apple mail app on my macmini and just use chrome.

I will never put another apple upgrade on any of my hardware---

I have used apple products since the Lisa--- and I never thought Apple quality would get like this.

If you actually meant 10.11.4, then you're using beta software. In which case, what did you expect? This is why you don't put beta software on a production machine. At least not without at least two separate, restorable backups.

    I double checked it's:

    10.11.3 on a mid-2010 mackbookpro

    10.11.3 on mid 2010 macmini
