Feb 20, 2016 10:46 AM in response to dominic23by Pamela Powers,Done all that. thanks. for awhile it came up with each click and my Mac Mentor told me to do the shift key. but have to do it for every click. then others came up with a box to not have them do it again, but this one still does. last time I was on I could quit safari, and then it was ok for awhile, and now it pops up and dings if I try to quit so have to force quit. I read on a Safari community that an elderly person had given them his credit card. I know better than to fall for this but I've got to get this off the IMac. I have a 2012 IMac with Mountain Lion because I don't want to lose Photoshop Creative 3. Being a senior myself I don't have enough business anymore to warrant getting the cloud version. Is frameworks an app that would do this. The thread on Safari (but on my laptop I couldn't access my question) was to look for certain apps and one was Frameworks. I have that, but its contents are huge, and I don't want to remove it unless I know it's ok. I don't believe I ever had a program named frameworks. THANKS! It seems to be going around; many more people are inquiring. How does one get these *^%$%&**^^ guys to go away?????

Feb 20, 2016 10:48 AM in response to Pamela Powersby Pamela Powers, sorry, I wasn't clear there. "then others came up with a box" - 'others" meaning other pop up similar warnings with dire consequences, but I got rid of those. it's the one ostensibly from Apple that won't go away.

Feb 21, 2016 11:41 AM in response to dominic23by Pamela Powers,Thanks. Went thru all that. I had never cleared out cookies because I thot you had to do them all …but good to see I could choose under "Details". I probably deleted hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and in the midst it overloaded and crashed and somehow I lost the ones I had not eliminated so far. Bu t I saved about 22. Old ones I could be pretty sure about. Unfortunately, it didn't do the trick. I then opened the link you gave me, and under library there was no Saved Application State…..This is a 2012 IMac with Mountain Lion on it. Does that make a difference? In the process of looking up that link a new window popped up with apple support to chat, but I couldn't trust it was truly apple. thanks - I really don't want to have to redo the hard drive. There must be

Feb 21, 2016 11:59 AM in response to Eric Rootby Pamela Powers,Thanks Eric, but when i try to follow the instructions on the links, there is no Saved Application state under Library or or com.apple.Safari.plist. It seems to indicate that certain sites were hacked that I click on. at some point will they be fixed and will this go away? I'm getting out of my depth here. thanks. Would upgrading to El Capitan do any good? I really didn't want to do that as I have Adobe Creative Suite 3 and don't want to take a chance that it won't work. I had hoped to step up to Maverick, then Yosemite first, but find I have to jump to El Capitan and I worry about the programs that I'll lose. I'm semi retired so I don't have the business to do Photoshop in the cloud; thanks

Feb 21, 2016 12:12 PM in response to Pamela Powersby Pamela Powers,One of the suggestions on the links was that the url I was clicking on had been hacked. The first one that it happened to after I read that was yahoo.com so I sent them feedback. Heaven knows how long it will take for someone to read it.

Feb 22, 2016 6:53 AM in response to Pamela Powersby Eric Root, there is no Saved Application state under Library or or com.apple.Safari.plist.
Are you looking in the user Library?
In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library.

Feb 23, 2016 6:50 AM in response to Pamela Powersby Eric Root,Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Reset Safari. The down side is it clears all cookies. Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then Library./Caches/com.apple.Safari/Caches.db and move it to the trash.
Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

Feb 26, 2016 10:21 AM in response to Eric Rootby Pamela Powers,I tried the Develop > Empty caches. That didn't help. I'll try the next steps as soon as I can. Now it's coming up here on apple. It would seem since when the alert comes up and then it triggers an "Apple Support" page with them dialing me in to speak to one of their reps, that Apple should get on board and find out who they are and clean it up. It seems to be because I'm still on Mountain Lion. I need to get my taxes done before I try upgrading to El Capitan (I'd really like to just upgrade to like Yosemite and not do such a big jump but it doesn't seem to be available) in case it really messes up as I've heard about from others. Thanks Eric for your help. I shall keep going!

Feb 26, 2016 10:32 AM in response to Pamela Powersby Pamela Powers,This might not mean anything, but when I get one of the myriad of different alerts, it seems to be when I hover and click on the scroll bar on the right side. Doesn't do it all the time but when it does I seem to be clicking to hold and scroll and the screen kind of 'flips' or does some odd thing, and then the alert comes in…….
