I am seeing, you are using Yosemite. Is it really iPhoto that opens when you connect your iPhone or the new Photos for Mac application?
You can stop iPhoto from opening by changing the preferences: When iPhoto opens, go to iPhoto > Preferences, then change the option:
Connecting Camera opens: Change this to "No application".
