Q: My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire.  I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.0.1, null

This just happend to me as well... I locked my iPhone 6S+ 128Gb and walked down the stairs. Tried to unlock it but it was just black. And then I felt the homebutton was hot. Did a hard reset and the phone rebooted and the heat disappeared. Strrrrrraaaaange....

Just experienced this as well on my phone I got 10 days ago. Checked email this morning and when I got to work and took my phone of of my jacket pocket... dead and unresponsive. Someone mentioned icloud backup, I have it turned off. Phone was at 100%, hot enough to literaly burn my thumb. Apple said to send it in, but after reading on 9to5mac I was able to reset it by holding the buttons for 10 seconds.

IT was no after that. It only just happened this morning. i called apple about it before I figured out I could get it going. I called back after and left the guy a message he returned my call and left me a message. He said I should avoid using it and take it in for service. I will update after I talk to him again.

So weird! That happened to me literally 10 minutes ago... I have the 6s+ and I went to go check it, noticed it was off. So I plugged it into the charger thinking maybe it died but nothing happened except I noticed the home button started to get really hot. I googled the issue which led me to this blog. I did what everyone said with holding the home button and lock button down at the same time and it started right back up! I've used the home and lock button trick multiple times when my phone freezes or starts acting up but it's never gone to a black screen without any kind of activity until today.

    Thanks everyone for the help!

I ran into this issue this morning as well, for the first time ever.  Was using my phone in the morning as normal.  10 minutes later, I picked it up to check the time, and nothing.  Totally dead.  I knew it couldnt have been a dead battery, because I was in the 60% range.  tried to hit all the buttons, tried to plug it in, nothing. Noticed a little while later that the home button was getting hot.  Quickly Googled it, found this conversation, and did the reset thing.  Turned back on and seems like its running normally now, but very weird.  Also running an iPhone 6s with iOS 9.3.

I just had the same problem - the phone was on my desk, I went to check something it was completely black, not responding. The home button was super hot and was getting hotter. I managed to reset it but this is very worrying. This was with an iPhone 6s with iOS 9.3. I will be taking it to Apple asap and let you know what they say.

I'm very glad I found this thread, very enlightening. Thank you guys!

It is not normal. Return the phone to where you purchased it.

Same thing just happened to me. iPhone 6s 128GB running iOS 9.3.1. Did the hard reset as suggested and it started working. This is definitely something Apple should look into.

Same thing happened to my iPhone 6S. I've been using the phone about four months now and this is first time it happened.
