Q: Can the iPhone5 be hacked remotely by a hacker?

I work for a technology company and one of our employees shared an incident about her iPhone5 being hacked remotely. The hacker gained access to her device overnight while her phone was unlocked. The hacker watched her baby monitor video feed from the baby monitoring app  (including taking pictures and video from the device), posted about the baby to her FB account, browsed on Safari, including some searches of French books on amazon and Scott Trading sites. When I spoke with the mobile device team, they were not familiar with any iOS security gaps that would allow a hacker to remotely gain control of an iPhone, however, the activities on her device suggest that this is possible.

I found some articles from 2009 regarding a SMS virus that allowed hackers to gain remote access to a device, however, our mobile device team is certain that this gap would be closed by now.

Is anyone familiar with an existing security gap on the iPhone5? What would you recommend would be the next action for her? She is intending to delete her icloud account, change all her passwords and wipe her device.

I don't believe this poster, they seem to be quite content letting their money be stolen while they argue here, I'm out, this is a troll.

Reading comprehension is hard. I did not lose any money nor I am concerned about losing it because I have zero liability. This is not about that. This is about things happening which over and over customer service reps at two fortune 500 companies plus some people here say should never happen.

I had my online banking password reset multiple times without a reset code being sent by email or by text (should never happen), I found out this morning that my voicemail was forwarded to some random place where somebody would call my number (even me) and instead of getting my voicemail would get some organization that I have nothing to do with. The rep at my wireless company said it should not be possible to do that unless you have the phone in your hand. My iPhone never leaves my hands, ever. Now certain people on this forum over and over have said that what i described cannot ever happen without providing a viable explanation. Some have said I was a troll. I think the obvious explanation was that someone was exercising a certain amount of control over my cell phone. And it is not because they "guessed" my passwords.

I Am writing here to warn anyone that is using an iPhone that it can be hacked. It 2014 my MacBook, iPad, and iPhone 5 was hacked. the person hacked it not for identity theft purposes but to monitor my every move they have used their access to steal things I have purchased (classes, materials, email lists I build as an online marketer.) i write hear to warn anyone with a iPhone 6s that the game is/was not over I have on good authority that they gained access to my iPhone 6s webcam as I heard them contact me as though they can see me. I love apple and have since my first iPod. I have all apple prodicts (new MacBook Pro I purchased in sept 2015), iPad mini, and iPhone 6s as previously mentioned  and have which have been compromised and I have contacted apple but i believe because the problem isn't wide spread it isn't being addressed. I miss the days when the apple niche was too small to bother with.

iPhones can not be hacked unless they are (a) jailbroken, (b) in the physical possession of the hacker or (c) you give your password to another.

Well iPhones and all iOS devices come with Find My iPhone function, which is essentially a GPS device so if someone knows your iCloud credentials, they can easily find where you are.  You can turn off the Find My iPhone function on your phone if you don't want to be tracked but that also means if you lose your phone, you won't have that cute map to show your where it went.

And yes, iCloud can be easily hacked.  It's just another set of username and password combo, which unless you have two-step turned on, any savvy thief could brute force your password by buying a password cracker, which in many cases are available for free, online.

Yes the iPhone can be hacked. I used to work in San Jose and one day my coworker was freaking out bc as she was listening to some music she hears her friend's voice in an audio track. So she calls her friend and asked how he added his own recording to her playlist. Her friend works at Apple and remotely hacked into her phone to mess with her. This Apple engineer knew how to hack into the phone just by knowing her phone number. Creepy.

I was abducted by aliens last night. They found me by tracking my IMEI. I believe that Apple is in collusion. Have you seen the plans for the new Apple Campus? You can't make me believe aliens were not involved in that.

But, at least the view here from the mother ship is amazing and, weirdly, the cellular signal is also excellent.

Similarly, I am on iPhone 5 too.  My ex GF tends to receive all the information about me. This is really scary, as there is some sensitive data which is getting hold of. Apple advised me to change the ID, I did. Somehow, she hacked into it again.

Problem is, Apple has no proactive support for hacking issues. According to their major claim, their phones are highly secure. But this is not the case. Somehow, hackers are able to find the route in.

Your phone was not hacked. Your iCloud account may have been, but hat's a completely different issue. Change your password and turn on 2 factor authentication.

The same thing happened to me this morning. How can we block this? Right creepy. They were talking to me while I was listening to music through my Bluetooth. I had hung up from them prior. She started talking and I was like what? We actually hung up prior but when she started talking it was like we never hung up. The call was still going, I'm seeing 52:11 and counting........

Sounds as though you did not actually hang the call up.

I think that she could download extra security measures. Also, she should maybe add a password onto her phone. All those would hopefully stop the hacker.
