Q: Can't get new photo albums to sync to iPad

When I create a new album in the photos program, and  try to sync it to my iPad Pro, it does not appear under the selected albums list.  In fact a lot of different albums don't appear.  It's a very different list then the albums in my photos program. My photos program library is made from many different aperture libraries, not sure if that can effect it. There are tons of albums in the iTunes list that are not in my photos program. And my library lives on an external HD.

thanks

Ron

    Hi Ron,

I understand you are trying to sync photos from your Mac to your iPad, and you are not seeing a lot of the albums in the sync process.   It sounds to me like you have not designated a System Photo Library in the Photos app, and that is necessary for syncing from iTunes.

Another option is to enable iCloud Photo Library on your Mac, iPad Pro (and iPhone if you have one).  This will keep your the images you have in your Photos app and on your iPad Pro synchronized automatically.   You can choose the Optimize setting, which will save space on your iPad Pro, but leave the full size images and videos on your Mac and in iCloud.

Take a look at the resource below for more information about these options.  I've highlighted some key information.  Click on the link for complete details.

Sync photos from your computer to your iOS device using iTunes

If your photos are in an app

If you're synching from Photos, only your System Photo Library is available in iTunes.

    1. Choose the application you want to sync photos from in the pop-up menu.
    2. Choose to sync all photos or selected photos.
    3. Select "Include videos" to sync videos stored in that same app.

    4. Click Apply.

    iCloud Photo Library FAQ

Can I use iCloud Photo Library to save space on my device?

iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps all your photos and videos in the original, high-resolution version. Follow these steps to choose how you store your photos and videos on your device:

    • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select a storage setting.
    • On your Mac, click Photos > Preferences > iCloud, then select a storage setting.

If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. All of your original, full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud while device-size versions are kept on your device. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them.

If you turn on Download Originals, iCloud Photo Library will keep your original, full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and on your device. Download Originals is the default setting for iOS devices with the free 5 GB storage plan and for all Mac devices.

You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

    Take care,
