Q: No incoming email on upgrade to El Cap

Late 2012 MbPro With Fresh El Cap upgrade....

No other post seems to deal with this problem. I took my time to upgrade to El Cap and for the first time it seems the wait was not long enough. On the other side of the upgrade, my Mail app all of a sudden showed "Account Error" in TLHS of the Inbox window!!! This was a week ago and I have been trying to get this fixed on my own. But after going thru similar Mail problems on the message boards I realized that my problem is the opposite of what all the others had. I can send email but cannot receive!! Most have the opposite problem. But I still tried their remedies to see if they might work: I unchecked "email" in Preferences>iCloud, then rechecked it, I unchecked and later rechecked "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" in the Advanced tab in the email preferences, I turned off, then on "Use SSL" but I did NOT change the Port at 993 because I don't know what to change it to... I even opted for "none" for the outgoing server even though this works! Then I tried turning the account off and then on again. The option to rebuild is greyed out. I try to synchronize Account but I get a message below the inbox that says "no new messages" when there really are plenty of them....

Can anyone help me? Thanks!!

    Hi Nicholas Loisos,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that after updating to El Capitan, you are no longer receiving email. Are you not receiving new messages on all of your accounts or is the iCloud account the only affected one?

To continue troubleshooting, I suggest reading over and working through the following article. Running the Connection Doctor may provide us with some more information on what the issue is.

If you still can’t send or receive email

    1. Make sure that you installed the latest Mac software updates, especially if the issue occured immediately after installing a previous update.
    2. In OS X El Capitan, you might see a status icon and brief error message in the upper-right corner of the Mail window, beneath the Search field. The message might say “Network Offline” or “Login Failed,” for example. Click the message to see more details about the issue.
    3. Check your connection in Mail Connection Doctor. It might be able to tell you more about the issue.
