Q: iPhoto crashes after opening repeatedly

Hello -

Tonight my iPhoto opened, then crashed almost immediately. I have done a database rebuild, but it continues to crash shortly after opening. Using iPhoto 9.4.3 on OSX 10.8.5... thanks for any help.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Deleted the two files, no more crashes. Great.

Now, why hasn't Apple fixed it - it's now more than 2 months after people have been having problems and you've found a workaround. I know I've been sending crash reports so presumably they do nothing with them

Apple fixed this years ago, that's why. If you don't update then you don't get the fixes.

Is that whySoftware Updates doesn't show anything other than ElCapitan ? And in iPhoto, Check for Updates brings up a dialog stating that "This version of iPhoto (9.4.3) is the current version." And I can't find any newer version on Apple's website.

Unfortunately I cannot upgrade from 10.8 thanks to Apple's policy of dropping things on a whim. I have workflows that use Sync Services, and so far I have not found replacements for all of them yet.

I'm sure you have very good reasons for not updating, that's your business. But I would not be expecting Apple to update 3 year old versions of the OS and 3 year old versions of apps that have been discontinued and replaced for free, already. In any event you asked why Apple haven't fixed this: they have via free updates that you've chosen not to apply.

I was having crash problems every time I used the Info feature on my iPhoto 11 9.2.3 on a Mac OS 10.8.5, and just used Huxly647's advice regarding deleting the Google map html files. Now it works just fine, and like Huxly647, I don't mind not having the maps. Much prefer being able to see the photo info.

    Thank you Huxly647. Worked perfectly.

This was like a miracle.  I have no idea why it worked but it sure did.  I was so scared I was going to lose all my photos!  Now they're all back.

This worked perfectly when selecting the last option to rebuild the database.
