Q: iOS 9.2 iCloud backup still not fixed!!!

So I've been plagued with the Backup could not be completed problem and I've been waiting for Apple to release a fix and I was happy to see this problem mentioned as one of the bugs dealt with in iOS 9.2, BUT it was not actually fixed!

Now my phone is not backed up at all after all Apple geniuses advised that I delete older backups from iCould and try again, my MacBook storage is too small to carry my 128gb iPhone backup and now if my phone dies for some reason all my life is gone with it, well most of it!

Tried backing up my iPhone to external storage but Apple won't let you do that cause we are freaking slaves and not free to do what we want, so now I hope they would finally listen and address this issue that has been mentioned many times before!!!!

Have you tried a really REALLY powerful upload connection? Even at a friends place (he has 5Mbit upload) I couldn't complete the backup.

Take not that the upload needs to be strong, not the download (but usually is anyway with such connections)?

Yes.  At home I have 30/5 Mbps, at work I have synchronous 100/100 Mbps, at another office I have 60/10 Mbps, all have failed.

    Okay, sorry to hear that.

I have had the same problem for a few months, but the higher upload speed solved the problem for me.

I am now backing up as usual at work, but have to do it manually unfortunately. At home it won't backup overnight.

I hope Apple will fix this issue soon.

For those that are still complaining about this not working

    CALL APPLE

Once I called them the issue was fixed in a matter of days. If you don't contact them, chances are this will not be fixed for you. Don't like it? Go to Android or worse...Windows Phone.

I hit "This helped" by mistake and now it won't un-hit. Anyway, I'm sure that'll work for a few, but for me that was step one. Here I am, same issue, 5 months later.

I have iPad Air 1 and haven't been able to back up to cloud since since Sept. I have IOS 9.2.1.  I hope there is some kind of reasonable fix soon.

I called Apple support last night (2/10) and spoke with a very nice agent.  He asked if I had tried simple resets like Network Settings and trying to delete the iCloud backup file, and I said yes.  After he spoke with his manager, he said my only option would be to Erase my phone totally (I have a PC iTunes backup) and try to then use iCloud backup from a virgin phone.  If that worked, then he said the root cause problem was my phone software.  If not, it was my iCloud server data.  I tried the restore, still could not use my iCloud account to do a manual backup JUST LIKE EVERYONE HERE SAYS, and I called them back.

I got a new agent after the restore and gave her my original case ID.  She said the first agent did offer correct advice, and that she will raise a tech support ticket.  She said this has been "small issue" with some users, but there is no simple solution.  I mentioned that many forum users have called Apple Support and that something Apple did seemed to fix the backup problem in most cases, then I asked, "what is the usual solution for most people?"  She did not have an answer.

It appears the phone agents are not aware or able to tell you that the problem most of us are having is server side, probably simple data corruption that is not user-deletable.

I await progress from the technical support service ticket.

For those of you that have had success after calling Apple Support, did they explain to you what the root cause problem was?  The staff members I spoke to were clearly not aware (deliberately or not) of how to solve this problem.  There is no orchestrated response here, they suggest all the basic "reset" tricks that a 3rd party website would suggest.  They definitely do not say "Oh yes, we can fix that, here let me do it for you."

    r1nzl3r;

Thanks for the aggressive and worthless response. Love when people talk out of their rectum like they know what they are talking about. Guess what? I didn't call Apple and mine is working just fine now so stuff it. Your solution of going to Windows or Android is as worthless as you. I'm embarrassed of Apple using f-wads like you. Stop giving us a bad name, you worthless sack, and stop having your mom buy you your Apple products.

As for those that are still having trouble, I can't pinpoint what fixed mine because it started working randomly after a few days of me not even messing with it. I had given up until Apple comes up with a solution, but all is well now. I can say that I deleted my iCloud backup, but still had issues for several days. One thing that is curious is that iCloud Photo Library has had some hiccups backing up photos. No idea if they are related. They shouldn't since technically they're supposed to back up separately. Anyone else notice some photo back up issues? Trying to gauge whether there's a correlation.

After 14 weeks, it finally worked. I opened itunes and turned OFF the auto sync. Plugged my iphone 4s in and only used the manual backup function then immediately restored from that backup. The only result is that settings, texts, etc are overwritten with a new set of data. Everything was there and apps untouched. I didn't sync, just manual backup to computer and immediate restore. Ran icloud backup from phone, and boom. Can't believe it.

As I mentioned earlier, manual and automatic backups spontaneously started working for me, after weeks of no backups. I earlier tried restoring from an iTunes backup, but nothing worked, until it it came back to life. Could be a matter of Apple servers being fixed at different times in various parts of the world.

I have an iPhone 5c and iPhone 6 that share the same Apple user ID.  Both were backing up fine on iCloud until Apple replaced my iPhone 5c for a battery issue.  My new 5c was restored onto the new phone.  The older Backups were deleted from the new Iphone 5c.  Now the iPhone 5c will not backup to ICloud. There is room avaliable on the cloud.  From iPhone 5c "Manage Storage" screen, it shows backups for the iPhone 5c and iPhone 6 that share the same Apple user ID but iPhone (2) This iPhone shows 0 KB.  On the other Iphone, the Iphone 6, the "Manage Storage" screen, it only shows the Iphone 6.  That iPhone is not "seeing" the backup for the Iphone 5c.  All phone have latest sofware IOS 9.2.1.

I have tried many of the suggestions on this community board with no luck.  Does anyone have a similar suggestions on how to resolve this so my Iphone 5c can back up to the iCloud.?

16 weeks later and nothing has changed!

I'll be calling Apple and asking for a refund of what I've been paying for iCloud since it failed to do the main job I bought 200gb of storage for!

I've been using iPhones since iPhone 3G and this the first time I found Apple to be so careless with their customers!

This thread shows that hundreds of people have the same issue and yet they don't give a **** about anyone!

Check out my post on another thread about this. I may have finally fixed it. I had literally tried everything and noticed something interesting in my testing which led me to change my iCloud password. It met the requirements so it wasn't that, but there was something wrong with it. After changing my password and signing in on my phone with the new password, backups have completed successfully. I have restored an iTunes backup and in the midst of trying an iCloud backup, but it seems to be working as it should. The time remaining has consistently been there and it isn't going all over the place. I will update once that completes letting people know whether it was successful or not. Fingers crossed.

SUCCESS!! I was able to backup my phone finally. I restored from iTunes and then tried the iCloud backup. It completed successfully and behaved as it should. The progress bar moved along smoothly and the time remaining was accurate and never went away to recalculate. Try changing your iCloud password if you tried everything else and it still isn't working. It's one of the less painful possible fixes.
