Feb 20, 2016 8:30 PM in response to Michael Kovacsby LarryHN,★Helpfulthey are totally independent
You can delete either without affecting the other
BUT it will save very little space since they are both pointing to the same Original photos using Hard links -- Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
Unless you are totally positive that you are done with the iPhoto library (and unless it has been three or more months I suggest you may not be done with it) it is recommended not to delete the iPhoto library - you should never delete parts of it - either delete the library or keep it

Feb 20, 2016 8:36 PM in response to LarryHNby Michael Kovacs,Thanks Larry, I appreciate your answer and the link. Glad I saw it before I deleted anything. Sounds like it wouldn't do a whole lot in terms of space. The next step now is to decide whether to move from Photos to Lightroom exclusively. Love the Apple ecosystem, but I do more with LR anyhow, ugh decisions. Thanks again.
