Q: Will it affect pictures in Photos on my Macbook, if I delete all pictures on iCloud?

I want to free my iCloud by deleting all the pictures on it, but will this action affect the pictures in my Photos on my macbook?

I realized that my Photos and iCloud share many same pictures which I really only need one copy of.

With Apple, everything is kinda connected, I just want to be extra cautious.

MacBook Pro, iOS 9.2.1

    If you have Photos >  Preferences > iCloud (at the top of the Photos Preferences window) > iCloud Photo Library turned on, then deleting photos from the Photos app at https://www.icloud.com/ will also delete the photo on your MacBook and on any other device where you have iCloud Photo Library turned on.     I disabled iCloud photo library a while ago, but there are still about 1500+ pictures from the past that I want to keep.

    Do you know a quick way to download all that 1500 pictures...


    Also, having pictures in the photos app (on my Mac) doesn't mean it's downloaded right?

    If the photos are in the Photos app on your Mac the question is whether they are full-resolution originals or optimized versions. The link I gave in my reply above has instructions on how to download originals -- but if you never had the Optimize Mac Storage option turned on in Photos in your Mac there would be no need to download them now.
