Feb 20, 2016 3:26 PM in response to Fiestamanby Fiestaman,FINALLY! I MAY HAVE SOLVED IT!! Fingers crossed, but I may have finally fixed my issue. I couldn't seem to get my iPhone 6S to backup no matter what. I wish I had thought of the solution before I went through this nightmare ordeal over the last few weeks. I had tried everything, and yes, I do mean everything. Deleted the backup, tried unselecting all apps hoping it was some corrupted app data, , tried a different wifi network, turned off backup and turned it back on, signed in and out of iCloud, reset my phone, wiped my phone and restored from iTunes backup, wiped my phone and started from new. I thought it was weird that even a fresh install in which all I did was sign into iCloud then hit Backup didn't even work. I even went way farther than these troubleshooting steps and deleted all app data in my iCloud except for my iCloud Photo Library and some successful backups from other devices. I also removed any traces of my phone from my iCloud by going into my AppleID management and removing it from the list and removing it as a trusted device. Except for the photos and the other backups, I essentially nuked my iCloud. I even went so far as to nuke my phone by doing a full DFU restore to make sure there wasn't something that was getting left behind during restore. None of this worked. If a DFU restore didn't work, then it HAS to be server side. DFU restore would be like having a brand new phone.
During my extensive testing and work, (and I do mean extensive. I've spent easily 100+ hours over the last month and a half trying to figure this out doing research and trying anything I could think of.) I noticed something strange. Whenever I would wipe the phone and go through the set up, whenever I would go to my iCloud section the first time, it would ask me to put in my password again to verify it. Thought it was very weird to do that for a fresh install, so I thought that maybe there was something wrong with my iCloud account and maybe the password key on the servers. I decided to go ahead and change my password. My previous password met the requirements, so I know that wasn't an issue. Either way, I changed my iCloud password and then signed out on my 6S and then reset my phone. I wanted to clear out anything left over. I powered it back on and signed into iCloud with the new password. I went and tried a manual iCloud backup, and voila! It worked!!! I have tried it a subsequent two times and it completed successfully each time. I am in the process of restoring a stripped down iTunes backup that only contains my Watch data, Activity data, messages, and voicemails. I may try restoring a full backup later if this one works. If you've tried everything else and still have issues, try changing your iCloud password. 6 weeks in and I finally seem to be able to back up. I am currently backing up my phone from that stripped down restore and it is actually telling me how much time it has left. Typically, it wouldn't even say that. I will come back and update whether it was successful or not. Pray with me that this ordeal is done. If successful, I'll pass this information along to Apple support so they can figure out where the issue was.

Feb 20, 2016 4:42 PM in response to Fiestamanby Fiestaman,SUCCESS!! That was the first successful iCloud backup of my phone in weeks. It's gonna be a pain to get everything back to how it was, but I might just use this opportunity to start fresh. I don't think I've done that since I started using iPhones with the 3GS. Never had trouble with iCloud over the years though. Hopefully this helps someone else out. If you've tried everything else and can't get it working, changing your password might and it's fairly painless. I can't say for sure whether it was the combination of the password and wiping the device from my iCloud, but just wiping the device didn't help. Only after I changed the password did iCloud backup work as it used to. The progress bar progressed as it should and the time remaining was accurate. Glad this is behind me.

Feb 20, 2016 4:48 PM in response to Fiestamanby fallenx1778,See this is insane that you had to go through all of this! I am in the same boat (sort of) as far as ever since ios 9 the icloud backup never works as it used to. Ios 8 it backed up every single day like clockwork at exactly 24 hours. The device now backs up maybe once or twice a week. It needs to be on the charger for at least 10 hours when it actually does backup. I've tried everything suggested in this forum and it doesn't work. The problem is obviously ios 9 but apple refuses to acknowledge the problem and refuses to fix it. Nothing should be broken for 6 months. A company like apple should have had this fixed with the first update once it realized there was a problem

Feb 20, 2016 4:56 PM in response to fallenx1778by Fiestaman,Trust me, I don't dispute that at all. I was ready to give up and go elsewhere, but that'd mean Android and no thanks. I'll go sans phone long before then. However, it seems like there may have some issue with encryption or something along those lines. The iCloud data is encrypted and I wonder if changing my password forced the system to re-encrypt everything with a new key fixing my backups. I'm about to speak with a Senior Advisor at Apple to let them know how I fixed mine and maybe they'll look at the account to see what happened. Hopefully it will help fix it for some people, because I know I have been beyond frustrated while trying to get this figured out.

Feb 20, 2016 10:38 PM in response to Fiestamanby Doug.ie,Greetings,
100+ hours to find a bug/solution deserves acknowledgement. Well done, and if you have come across a hint that Apple can use to fix this, I think Apple owes you a new iPad..maybe even new iPhones for life. Well done..Apple and the rest of us owe you one!

Feb 21, 2016 5:31 AM in response to PhB66by PhB66,Answer to Jordan23k23
I mean the beta version.
fbr79 said in a precedent post that this issue could be resolved with a beta version of iOS 9.3
Do you still have the problem ?

Feb 22, 2016 2:26 AM in response to Fiestamanby erani,Hi,
I tried and it didn't solve the problem.
What were the exact steps?
Which iOS 9.x you've been using?
Thanks

Feb 22, 2016 3:24 AM in response to PhB66by PhB66,Spoke to a "senior" Apple man. He told me the problem could be lonked to my iphone and he proposed me an exchange in applestore. I don't know what to do, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the phone itself but related to Apple servers. Don't want to change my phone for nothing...

Feb 22, 2016 9:02 AM in response to eraniby Fiestaman,I am on 9.2.1. As for the exact step, it's hard to say because I've spent weeks trying a plethora of different things. I'm not exactly sure what combination of things made it work, but I know it finally worked after I changed my iCloud password. Before I finally got it to work, I had tried backing up with all I selected, wiped my phone and did a DFU restore, deleted all app data in my iCloud except for my photos and other device backups, restored a stripped down backup with only messages, voicemails, and watch/activity data. Like I said, the password change is what eventually fixed it for me. I can't say that will fix it for everyone but I had noticed each time I restored my device, the first time I went to the iCloud settings, it'd say I need to update my password and ask me to re-enter it. That's what led me to believe there was something corrupted related to my password. Do you have this happen to you? Or have you not tried a wipe and restore?

Feb 23, 2016 12:51 AM in response to Fiestamanby erani,Thanks.
I didn't wipe and restored.
Maybe this is part of the needed process....

Feb 23, 2016 3:47 PM in response to Fiestamanby goldstorms,Just wanted to chime in a hearty "thank you" to Fiestaman! Changing my password allowed me to finally backup my phone to iCloud. Kudos for all of your hard work and for using one of my favorite words (plethora)!

Feb 24, 2016 6:31 AM in response to goldstormsby erani,Hi,
What were the steps you've taken?
Did you wipe out and restored your iphone?
For me it didn't work and I wonder what did I do wrong.
Thanks!

Feb 24, 2016 6:50 AM in response to eraniby goldstorms,Yes, I did reset my phone and restore it from a previously saved backup (after following the steps outlined in this thread). Unfortunately, that did not seem to fix the problem so I continued searching for a solution and came across this thread. I then took Fiestaman's advice and applied a password change to my Apple ID and that seemed to do the trick. I was able to then backup to iCloud for the first time in weeks.
