Q: iPhone call list appearing on multiple phones on same AppleID

I have two phones that both use the same Apple ID. Since recent updates we now see both users call lists on both phones. This is annoying not only from a privacy perspective but we both see each others "Missed Calls" and of course if you call them back its not you they wanted.... Is there a new setting somewhere to turn this off (I wouldn't call it a feature). We dont have "Follow me" enabled either...

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2

Unless you are the same person you shouldn't be sharing Apple IDs between devices. Especially if there's a privacy question, as there's a lot more you can see than recent call lists, such as calendar entries, contacts, notes, reminders, data backups, files for Numbers, Pages and Keynote, text messages, Facetime calls, photos, apps, app scores and purchase history. It is better to have separate IDs, at least for iCloud. You can still share the Apple ID for the iTunes & App stores if you want to, but even that isn't really necessary, as 2 or more Apple IDs that participate in Family Sharing can still share purchased content. See: Family Sharing - Apple Support

But if you want to continue to share in spite of the disadvantages and privacy issues, on each device go to Settings/phone and turn off Calls on other devices

Stop sharing an ID for iCloud. iCloud IDs are not intended to be shared. There is no "privacy" issue except for the one you have created by sharing an account.

When we first got our iPhones some years back, Apple didn't allow us to use emails for Apple ID's so we both used the same ID. I guess now this can be done (as our two kids do this). I understand that we can still "share" purchases etc... through Family Sharing but what happens when the kids grow up and move away and have their own credit cards? Apple does not allow purchases to be transferred. As well as this your purchases "die" with you too for the same reason.

So it looks like I will have to get a new Apple ID. Can I simply change this on my phone or will I have to do a backup/reset/restore?

You can just change it on one of the phones. Log out of iCloud, iTunes & App Stores and Facetime. Then click the option to create a new Apple ID and log in with it. Link it to the old Apple ID and set the options for the things you want to sync.
