Q: Siri not setting reminders, opening apps, etc

After a recent wipe and restore from iCloud, Siri is no longer working consistently on my iPhone 6, running iOS 9.2.

I've run thru all the usual remedies (restart, restore, wipe settings, Siri on/off, etc.) with no luck. Apple even replaced my phone, as it seemed to be having touchscreen response issues, but the problem stayed with the iCloud restore.

Any ideas?

- won't play music

- won't create emails

Did the final release 9.2.1 fix this issue for anyone?

Thanks for these clear instructions.  I followed them, and Siri is working fine now. Hope she stays the course. But thanks much; very helpful.

I was having the same problem. Siri wouldn't do any of the above actions. Im currently running update 9.2.1.   after reading issues folks were having with iCloud backup, I turned off iCloud backup and Siri now performs all of these commands.

I'm on 9.2.1 and was having this problem. Last night I noticed that while my iPhone said I was on the most current release, when I plugged it in to the laptop, iTunes said there was an update. It was the same version number, 9.2.1, but I installed it through iTunes anyway. It's been 24 hours now and Siri will still open Safari. Opening Safari was one of the things she failed to do before. So for the moment, that problem seems resolved for me.

On the downside, a while back I came to notice that if I added calendar items with Siri, she doesn't do what I want. I'd say, "Add appointment Lunch with Bob today at noon." She'd say "Which Bob?" and title the event "Lunch". That's not what I want. I want the title to be "Lunch with Bob" and for Siri to send no invitations. I had been able to reword the request with "add calendar event Lunch with Bob" and Siri would create "Lunch with Bob" and not try to attach a contact. But since last night's update, I can find no way to word it such that it works that way. Siri is all about attaching a contact and, perhaps, emailing an invitation. So while overall Siri behavior has improved with the update, adding calendar items is now useless to me. Bummer. I wish there were a Settings switch to disable the entire invitation behavior.

I have 9.2.1 and seemed to have solved the problem for now (15 minutes and counting...).  I Reset All Settings.  But!  Make sure to then re-Enable Siri or else it will be worse than when you started.

Note: you will have to redo lots of settings including touch id and wallet etc.

It didn't last. By today, Siri once again cannot find Safari on my iPhone. I might Reset All Settings as MarcusKJ suggested, but man, I don't even know what they all are to put them back. I know of no way to save them off for a restore of just the settings, so I'd have to troll all the screens and take screenshots. Is there a better way?

Any idea when 9.3 final will be released. Some here report success with the beta, but I don't want to risk that. If it's just around the corner, I'd rather not wipe all my settings.

The 9.3 beta has been more stable than 9.2. It fixes the Siri problem immediately. Don't be shy. Try it.

NO--- Within a day, it STOPPED working again.  And during the tech support process I suffered the collateral damage of having to re-subrcibe a paid subscription lost during the Reset all settings process.

    9.3 Hurry please.

I'm usually an early adopter, but since this is my only phone, I hesitate go to try 9.3 beta, especially when I hope the public release is not too far off. But maybe I'll get brave. :-)

Thanks for the follow-up. I had considered the reset, but given your update, I'll avoid that. Looking forward to 9.3.

There’s a few threads on this same subject.  I have found a fix for this issue which worked for me, and I’d be keen to see if it works for other readers of this site.  Please see fix at https://discussions.apple.com/message/29907793#29907793.

Brand new iPhone 6S, exactly this problem.  Thanks for confirming my sanity.  Gotta have something to do with starting the new phone from my old iPhone 5 back up.  Siri worked fine on that.
