Q: Problem with Bootcamp 6.0.2

Hello everyone

I have a problem with my MBA. I would like to put a Windows 7 partition with the bootcamp assistant but during the process I have this problem : "No bootable device, press any key to continue"

I looked on the net they said to turn off then to restart but nothing happens. I pretty sure the problem comes from the computer not my USB (tested on another computer).

Does anyone have an idea ?

Thanks in advance.

    Mid 2012

P.S: I never had this problem before and already did a bootcamp around 6 months ago.

Remove the BC partition using BCA, if it exists.

Disconnect all external storage, run the following two procedures

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

and re-run BCA and create your partition and USB Installer and test.

    It doesn't work.

In fact I didn't explain well:

I go on BCA, do the installation then:

-my computer restarts but here is the problem the screen becomes white with no logo nothing until the end

-so i force to restart the computer

-then press alt while the sound comes

    - and try to choose the USB key to begin windows

    - But here is another problem sometimes my key doesn't appear (90% of the time) (trying put it in and out etc)

    - And when it appears when I click on the key I have the message I've told you before " Choose bootable ...."

Can you check if you have a $WinPEDriver$ directory on the USB? What is the version of Windows you are trying to install? If the USB does not show when using Alt/Option, there may be an issue with USB Bootability.

This USB will work on PCs, but is missing the $WinPEDriver$, AutoUnattend.xml and Bootcamp folder which BC Assistant should have included on the USB.

Was the download software option checked when you built the USB? If you are on El Capitan, it will not download the software, but point you to Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support . This link has the following the three folders I mention in Step 11.

Perform a new install of Windows 7

Use these steps if you're installing Windows 7 on your Mac for the first time.

    1. Start up your Mac in OS X.
    2. Use the tables at the end of this article to make sure you have a Mac that supports the version of Windows you're installing.
    3. If your copy of Windows 7 came on a DVD, create a disk image of the install disc for use with Boot Camp.
    4. Connect a 16 GB or larger USB flash drive that you can erase. Leave this flash drive connected to your Mac until Windows installation is finished.
    5. Open Boot  Camp Assistant from the Utilities folder (or use Spotlight to find it) and click Continue.
    6. Select only the options to create a Windows install disk and to download the latest Windows support software from Apple. Then click Continue.
    7. Insert your Windows install disc, or choose your Windows installation ISO, then click Continue. Boot Camp erases your USB flash drive and prepares it for Windows installation. After the flash drive is prepared, close the Boot Camp Assistant window to quit the app.
    8. Use the tables at the end of this article to find the Windows support software (drivers) you need for the version of Windows and the Mac that you're using.
    9. Click the link in the table to download the related software.
    10. After the file downloads, double-click it from the Finder to decompress (unzip) it.
    11. Open the resulting folder. Locate the following files in this folder and drag them to your USB Flash drive. When prompted if you want to replace the existing items on the flash drive, click Yes.

      $WinPEDriver$ (folder)
      AutoUnattend.xml
      BootCamp (folder)

    12. Open Boot Camp Assistant again, then click Continue.
    13. Select only the option to "Install Windows… or later version."
    14. Click Install, then follow the onscreen prompts to repartition your drive and install Windows.
    15. When you complete the assistant, your Mac restarts to the Windows installer. When you're asked where you want to install Windows, select the BOOTCAMP partition, then click Drive Options and format your Boot Camp partition.
    16. Follow the onscreen prompts to finish installing Windows.

    Thank you

    I have fixed the problem.

Indeed it was the USB key. I changed it and it worked. And i don't know why but it was on Read only. (not Write and Read)

Excellent. Please backup OSX, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point for future recovery.
