Q: Application stuck "installing..."

Hello,

I tried to update all apps in my iPad, and some of them were able to load and install, but 6 applications got stucked.

I've checked on every forum and tried reseting the iPad, downloading and installing them from iTunes, clearing all pending downloads, etc.

None of these solutions seams to work for me.

The apps are still stuck with the "Installing..." label.

All of them have an empty installation bar, except for one, that has the same label but no bar.

Is there anything else I can do about it?

I'll deeply appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance.

Great solution! Solved the problem. One comment: I have an iPhone 6 with IOS 9.2.1 and the path is slightly different:

Settings -> General -> Storage & iCloud Usage -> Manage Storage (there are two 'Manage Storage' options, pick the one for Storage, not iCloud) -> click the problematic app -> click Delete App.

In my case, apps stuck as "installing" were removed from the AppStore at some stage,

so I guess iTunes blocks the re-installation of such apps, even-though they were in my iTunes "Apps" library.

The "solution" was to completely delete those apps from my iTunes library:

    1. Open iTunes

    2. Switch to the "Apps" section (can press [command]+[7])

    3. Find the relevant apps (can use the search-field at top-right)

    4. Right-click the app and choose "delete"

(iTunes required a confirmation for the deletion)

    5. On your device (iPhone/iPad), delete those apps the usual way (long-press, then press the [X])

    6. Sync your device with iTunes, as usual

FYI, earlier today, Apple Bug Reporter support responded to the 1/21 bug report I reference in my 1/21 post to this discussion.  They have closed my report in deference to what they called "...the original bug report your issue was duplicated to..."  My Report ID had numerical precedence relative to the what they called "...the original bug report your issue was duplicated to...", and I believe I had (and have) no way to access that other report.  At any rate, I also hope Apple makes some progress towards resolving this issue.

    Brilliant Tyler!

What I will say is that I had to hold down the icon for a bit.  Once it blinked, then I was able to confirm that the icon had been replaced and it was downloading again.  The app installed and opened correctly.

    Thumbs up for you, cheers!

I've had this happening for the last several months as well, and it's gotten annoying enough that I actually did a search on it (ending up here). A device restart will always "unstick" the update, but in some cases I may have to go an re-download the app from the App Store, because it will have disappeared from my phone or iPad. I don't think it's something specific to my device (e.g. a corrupted settings file), because it happens on both my iPhone and iPad, and it continues to happen on my iPad even after restoring it (for different reasons).

Bottom line: Apple, this is a major bug on the premier service on your premier platform. Please fix it!

I'm still trying to figure out iTunes, but I don't get a list of the apps on the left; just the emulation on the right. It won't let me delete the app, either. (It's said "updating" for over a week now.)

I've tried to download snapchat over a week, it's downloading any other app but not snapchat, I had to delete it as it wouldn't let me update the app, I haven't tried to plug it into a laptop just yet, but now all my storage is messing up, it's saying that I have under 200MB of storage when I had 1.87GB this morning and I haven't took pictures, I've deleted over 200 images on my phone and it still won't let me download snapchat. I've tried using another Apple ID to download it, and I'm not sure how to download it any other way.

    thankyou

    Hi,

I cannot find snapchat in the app store, so it may have been deleted. Exactly which app are you trying to install?

Oops, I see it's a phone only app. And you are installing on a phone, right? This is the iPad forum, so confused me.

Try putting your Idevice in airplane mode, then delete the app, turn off airplane mode, go to app store and re-download the app. It should install correctly, then.
