Q: Can I connect a Mac Pro 2015 and a new iMac to a G Raid Studio 12TB so they can share storage?

Hi all,

Not sure if this is possible, but, we have a small video production department at work with a Mac Pro 2015 and a new iMac using Adobe Creative Suite. The Mac Pro is attached to a G Raid Studio 12TB, and we'd like to have the iMac share the G Raid. We thought it would be as simple as connecting through Thunderbolt, but of course we assumed incorrectly lol. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Thanks!

    Use the Mac's File Shareing.

You can't have two computers connect via TB to the same drive at the same time.

Gigabit Ethernet will give you "near Hard drive" speeds for file accesses. This is great for most purposes, but not quite fast enough for active Video editing.

Remember that RAID is not Backup. You still need a backup to protect those files. If you do not create a Backup, you have made a conscious decision not to permanently keep those files -- it is only a matter of time before they are lost forever.
