Q: When deleting photos from iPhone to free up space does that delete them from iCloud as well?

I Am so frustrated, I have been an Apple user since 2002....  i know it's a simple question, when having to erase photos from device to free up space, does that automatically delete them from iCloud?  I don't mind erasing photos to free up space as long as I still have them backed up in iCloud can anyone clarify the process for me??  Thank you!!
