Q: Why is purchased and downloaded movie file name download.m4v?

I recently added a NAS to store all of my media on in my home. I followed instructions to move my iTunes library to the external drive and copied all files over to the new location. I was able to do this for all of my purchased and downloaded iTunes movies. that was three or four weeks ago. Yesterday I purchased and downloaded the movie Creed. It shows in my library as downloaded. But when I navigmate to the folder on my NAS to copy the downloaded file over to my backup folder I can't find it. The only recent file there shows up as download.m4v. i verified from the get info window that I'm looking in the right folder. How do I find the file creed (HD).m4v and copy it over to my backup folder?

I was able to make it work for two other recent purchases. So I know it's possible.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

    Hello workinforalivin,

I understand that you are trying to locate the movie Creed that your recently purchased. I can help you find it.

All you need to do is right click on the movie to bring up a secondary menu and select Get Info. This will bring up the details about the movie with a location path on where the movie lies. Take a look at the information below for more details.

Locate and organize your iTunes media files
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204668

Locate the file for an item you see in iTunes

If you're not sure where iTunes stores your content, open the Get Info window:

    1. Select a file in iTunes.
    2. Mac: From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose File > Get Info.
Windows: Hold down the Control and B keys on your keyboard to open the iTunes menu bar, then choose File > Get Info. Learn more about menus in iTunes for Windows.
    3. Click the File tab.
    4. At the bottom of the tab, look to the right of "location" for the address or path where your file is located.

Some of your files might be stored in iCloud. For these files, Get Info shows iCloud instead of a path to a location on your computer.

    Take care

actually this didn't work. The file location in the "get info" window was correct and showed the correct filename. However, when I navigated to that folder, the only file there was download.m4v. But it wasn't an actual movie file. So I ended up just starting fresh. I deleted the movie from my library and removed the file as well. Then re-downloaded it. This time I was able to see the file downloaded in the library and copy it over to my backup folder as well.

    Hey workinforalivin,

Glad to hear that you got it working by deleting the movie and downloading it again from your previous purchase. That would have been my next recommendation to get that fixed.

    Take it easy.
