Q: Cannot sync photos "iPhoto library is not yet available"

When syncing iPhone 5s to iMac running Yosemite and get the following error:

"iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone "iPhone" because your iPhoto library is not yet available. Please try again later."

This phone has been syncing with iPhoto for some time now. This is a new one to me.

Tried rebooting the phone and the desktop machine, same result.

Interestingly, in iTunes when selecting the "photos" page all I get is the spinning circle for the iPhone, the other selections, Summary, Apps, etc., all load fine.

The same situation is true for the iPad mini, the photo page never loads. I have not attempted to sync the iPad since this error appeared.

Anyone familiar with this error?

This mac has had the "iPod" cache folder deleted in past months to clear another sync error, but had been syncing fine since then.

iTunes version 12.1.050

Thanks!

    This was my solution:

'Trust This Computer' alert on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

To untrust all computers, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy.

First untrust, then connect your iphone, click trust computer and photos will automatically work again.

As weird as this sounds, I think it has something to do wt either an IOS 9 update, or possibly a manufacturing problem in a couple of devices. This is only speculation, and I understand that Apple will take this post down as soon as they see it, but hopefully some users wt the same problem will see it, and also reply. When I updated to IOS 9, I immediately got touch screen problems. I brought my device to the app store, and they swapped it out. Well not exactly, I still had to pay $160 out of pocket, because the device was out of warranty. The device they gave me, was the exact same one, and they told me I had to get the same color. For all I know, it could be the same one. I got home, and decided  to download the latest update for the device. Immediately I noticed some lagging touch issues. Nothing terrible, but I had used my previous device for two years, so I could tell they were there. Before going to the app store, I created a backup of my device, in case they determined, in case it had to be replaced. I got home, and tried to use my latest iPod backup. Guess what? When connected to this suppossably new iPod, 'no' backup could be located, either in iTunes or the cloud. I had created several new updates to the cloud several weeks ago, and had made an iTunes backup this morning for safe keeping.  Still when I connected this new iPod tonight, and went to saved backups, it claimed there were none. I also checked iCloud, and it also said their were none created. So I am getting pretty upset by now. I decide to reload my music library, & iPhoto library, through iTunes. The music library seems to have gone into my iPod, but not the photo library. I have a rather large photo library, so I didn't want to put in in the cloud. For some weird reason 4 of my photos, out of 100's, did import. There is either something seriously wrong wt this IOS update, or perhaps only wt certain devices. Maybe the ones wt problems are being made improperly, or the IOS designers are rushing to get the software developed. No matter what the problem is, apple will unfortunately be using a whole lot of customers, if they continue working like this.

I had the exact same problem and found out that I had never replied "import" to the import photo screen in iPhoto. I went from "photos" in my iPhoto account to "import" and clicked on "Import 383 photos" and voila! Sometimes the best answers are the simplest ones!

See iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone because your photo library is not yet available. Please try again later??

Downloading iTunes again solved the problem for me. I left the iPad plugged in: at the end of the download the iPad was successfully synced.

iTune 12.3.1.23 before and after the download. I suspect a cache or preference file was refreshed by the download.

I found the same problem after the installation of MacKeeper 2015

    So, my solution is

    1-uncheck and recheck the photos

    2-close MacKeeper 2015

I have just spoken to an Apple senior advisor who has solved this for me.

***Please back up your iPhone and Photos computer before doing this***

Basically the Photos just needs resetting When you open Photos. hold down alt. This will then ask you to chose which library to use. Create a new one called Test or something, and put a few pictures in there.

Then select this as the System Photo library by following instructions below:

Designate a System Photo Library in Photos - Apple Support

Open iTunes and onto your iPhone, when plugged in, click on the photos tab, and select this as your Photo library.

    Quit Photos and iTunes.

Open Photos again whilst holding alt. Rechoose your origional photos library, and follow instructions above to designate this as your system photo library.

Select your iPhone from within iTunes and move to photos tab. Reselect your origional photos library.

Click sync. Worked for me and got rid of that error message!

What a nightmare! What are we supposed to do- take off work to fix the mess they've created? The number one problem with the iPhone it that it has no drag and drop capabilities (it has at times, mine has none),  and we cannot open docs with the apps of our choice. In short, we have no 'Finder.' The iTunes interface is equivalent to the computers you interface with at places like Sears- extremely restricted.

Second, as long as the public keeps going ape over the iPhone the company will continue doing what it's doing now: neglecting user improvements, changing the size and width of the phone, simplifying the graphics...in other words, just keep raking it in.

I have the same problem as you and you know what? I've spent enough months of my life trying to fix crap software that I paid a mint for. If it won't sync, fine, don't sync. I don't even care...I'll find another solution- because I actually do think differently...

I myself had this problem when trying to sync iPhone running on IOS v9.2.1. I quit Photos and iTunes and then tried to sync my phone again. This time it worked no problems. Then i tried to sync my iPad which had the same problem, and this also worked.

    This problem popped up today.

My iPad 2 is running IOS 7.1.1 and my new iMac OS 10.11.

I am very unknowledgeable about computers so I resorted to the simplest procedure first.

I simply rebooted both iPad and iMac then synced again.

    No problems after that.

    All photos synced up.

I had a similar problem but never got the sync to work from the beginning.  But I tried this fix and now everything (iMac to iPhone, iPad) is working. The underlying problem seems to be due to a permissions error which was easy to fix.

iTunes can't sync because Photos app is unavailable. Pain!

iTunes can’t sync because Photos app is unavailable. Pain!

Navigate to the source of your Photos library. Open finder and locate it, typically within your User area under Pictures.

Right click on ‘Photos Library’ and select Get Info. At the bottom you will see a lock. Click it and enter your admin password. From the drop down lists at the bottom ensure ‘everyone’ has the option to read and write to the file.

Get Info pane for the library folder. Here we can change the permissions.

Get Info pane for the library folder. Here we can change the permissions.

This will allow the system and other process to write to your Photos library. It seems during the sync process if iTunes needs to write to the library it can’t, thus the process fails.

Restart both Photos and iTunes and sync your iPhone/iPad again. It should now work.

I don’t know why this fails, but this fix does seem to work.
