Q: iOS9 Airdrop to Mac not working

Trying to connect iPhone 6+ iOS9 to 2013 iMac OS X 10.10.5 via Airdrop but not showing up on iMac or iPhone, worked perfectly before iOS 9.

iPhone can Airdrop to another iPhone and iMac can Airdrop to another Mac, but not iPhone to/from Mac.

iOS update was originally done OTA and have reinstalled through iTunes.

Have tried all suggestions I have come across but still they won't connect.

Anyone have similar problems?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 21.5 in 2.9GHZ i5 16 GB

Thanks. I tried that but it made no difference.

The iMac and iPod Touch just don't see each other.

    Hey guys,

This is really unfortunate for us that we have to deal with this AirDrop thing. The other day I plugged my i6+ running the latest iOS into my iMac Late 2013 running latest El Cap and it kept beeping and prompting me to trust the computer every second or half second. I hard restarted the phone,  did regular restart, reset network settings, and not sure what else, but at some point the prompts stopped and there it was, my iPhone was visible on my AirDrop. I transferred the pictures I needed and was good... or so I thought. I put in my fingerprints again and went on with my day. I put in the other information I needed like wifi passwords and not sure what else. I tried to AirDrop today and lo and behold, no iPhone visible on either my iMac or latest MBP 13".
What the heck is going on? I switched from Android because I was confident of the continuity of Apple, but now I'm starting to regret it.

Had the same problem with iOs 9.2.1 and El Capitain 10.11.3 with my iPhone & Mac connected to my Bigpond router.  Connected both devices to my TPLINK and problem solved!!! Airdrop working perfectly!!

treid resolving by doing all the r&d.. this is not getting fixed in el capitan.. apple should do something for resolving basic issues while upgading their OS. Finally i sent my photos through gmail to myself after trying through airdrop for more than 2 hrs... so frustating

Looks like our frustration has got some attention at Apple!

I got a call from an Apple Advisor who is trying to probe further into this problem.

Nice to see that Apple is paying attention to the issues that we're facing.

Hopefully it will lead to a solution ... hang tight!

yes.. great news. Apple engineers also contacted me yesterday and requested logs .. so I can  confirm that Apple are being proactive on this issue My workaround 'trick' is still working .. by combining jamespaski's suggestion (mentioned earlier in this discussion) and Aquila74's suggestion to change the NETBIOS name I've been able to airdrop every day.

iPhone 6s 9.0.2 and Mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13" on El Capitan 10.11.3.

I tried all recommended workarounds and nothing works. I even reinstalled El Capitan multiple times. My iPhone 6s can airdrop between other iPhones and iPads perfectly fine but does not want to be seen or see my MacBook pro. Hopefully Apple sees this and takes note that another person would like to see a fix.

It's quite strange but I was able to restore AirDrop by doing something opposite to all the instructions here (Handhoff was working whole the time). Firstly I've deleted in Library/Preferences:

    • com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
    • com.apple.P2PSupervisor.plist

    And then in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration:

    • com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    • NetworkInterfaces.plist
    • preferences.plist
    • CaptiveNetwork/Settings.plist

Nothing from above gave me any result. I was constantly getting in Console.app:

    ... sharingd[323]: 22:48:57.622 : BTLE discovered device with hash <01b51f78 e613cc00 0000>

    ... sharingd[323]: 22:48:57.655 : Hash <01b51f78 e613cc00 0000> exists in contacts

    ... sharingd[323]: 22:49:28.457 : BTLE scanner Powered On

And that was it, no connection was being made from my MacBook Pro (late 2013) into any iOS device (iPhone 6s 9.2.1 / iPad Air2 9.2.1). What helped at the end was adding back com.apple.P2PSupervisor.plist into Library/Preferences. Now the AirDrop is working.

I also have problems with AirDrop. My iPhone 6 finds my iPad Mini Retina normally, both with iOS 9.2.1. When I try to connect my 2 devices to my Mac (Mavericks) it's impossible.

Is there any incompatibility with iOS 9 and Mavericks for AirDrop? I know iCloud is available only on Yosemite and El Capitan but no information about AirDrop.

To send items to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you need a 2012 or newer Mac model with OS X Yosemite or later, excluding the Mac Pro (Mid 2012). The iOS device must have Personal Hotspot turned off in Settings > Cellular.

This is so sad. Spending so much money on buying an iPhone is such a waste if the best features don't work! I could bought an android device at half the price and it would have at least worked the way its expected. Very disappointed with Apple and if soon this is not recognized or fixed, I will shift back to an Android. Shame on you Apple. The so called best customer experience company has let all of us down miserably. Apple is cheating people by proclaiming features like AirDrop that don't work.

Tried everything including stupid suggestions like "Is there a me card on your contacts app".

Is there anybody from Apple on this forum who can provide clarity on what the issue is and when it can be fixed?

be patient.. Apple engineers are aware of the problem and are working on it .. they contacted me for data and logs from my iPad and macbook a few weeks ago... in the meantime I've managed to work out a temp. fix to this problem that works for me.. it appears to be a wifi stability issue .. I'm not affiliated with Apple and I'm not a young hotshot techie .. but I do have faith in Apple.
