Every Apple item that you purchased is covered by the guarantee.  You should bring the phone and all accessories the next time that you visit the U.S.  You can not ship it for service.

If the device is still under warranty, Apple would examine the phone and if it is a manufacturing issue, they would make the decision. However, Apple does not accept international shipments, so you cannot ship the device back to Apple in the US for service. You can either send it to a friend or family member to bring to Apple, or bring it back yourself. As far as accessories, not necessary.

I figured that the accessories are likely not the cause of the issue but no harm in bringing them.

We were typing at the same time. I didn't see your response until after I posted. I was just saying it is not necessary to bring accessories, since they don't provide them if a device swap is necessary.

My mentality was a bit different as I had recently brought my cable TV box to the provider for replacement.  As I did not bring the (perfectly satisfactory) remote, they did not give me a new one.  When I got home I discovered that my old remote was incompatible with the new box!  I had to go back.
