Q: 1-800-914-1**2 scam for Safari

When using Sarfari, a graphic popped up and we are told Safari is locked. To call this Apple support phone number: 1-800-914-1**2, it's a scam. I can't get rid of the window in Safari. I'm using Chrome now. How to I get Safari working?? I force quit it, but did nothing. Other people have received this scam message I see when I searched the number they say to call! Note: I did not call the number, but Safari is locked.

Please read Phony "tech support" / "ransomware" popups and web pages for a description of, and the solution to, this common scam.

The link provided previously probably has this info but just in case:

Quit Safari like this: To quit an app double click the Home button to reveal the app switcher. Flick up on the page preview of the app you want to quit. The page preview will fly away and disappear. That quits the app.

Then use the Settings app to clear Safari History and Data.

Settings > Safari > Scroll down to Clear History and Website Data

Then reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

Finally do not visit the website again that caused the popup to appear.
