Q: Messages app not showing images like in iPhone app. (displays 'IMG_4730')

My Messages app is not showing photos, despite being displayed just normally on my iPhone. It just shows a little bubble with text like 'IMG_4730'. I know others have had this issue, and I have tried things such as reinstalling the Operating System and deleting the "Attachment" folder in the Library directory (both the 'hidden' one and the normal one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Can you double click them to open them in Preview ?

IN the Window Menu > File Transfers do that window say you have Received them ?
