Q: Very very slow internet on MacBooks

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro with OSX 10.9.5 and a 2010 Macbook OSX 10.10.5 and the internet can be VERY slow. It's often random and one Macbook can be slow and hanging up while the other is running fine or vice versa or they could be running normal or slow at the same time. Like I said random. We also have 2 iPads, 4 iPhones and a Windows desktop that NEVER have internet problems. It even happens if only one MacBook is on line with no other devices online so overloading the router is not likely. The 2010 Macbook problems started when I updated it to Yosemite and the Macbook Pro has been that way since it was new which is why it still has Mavericks, I've been afraid to update it. I've been through 2 routers both dual band with the same results on either band. Reloading the page has no effect when it hangs, sometimes closing the tab and opening a new one will fix it but most of the time I have to quit Safari and reopen to get it working again. Both MacBooks act identical with the internet. Randomly slow and hanging.
