Q: Still about 3000 photos do not upload to icloud library. There is nothing different in size or type of photo as the once that were uploaded. Any ideas?

I have uploaded my entire (30000) picture library to icloud. However about 3000 of them just won't upload. I have checked and they are nothing different in size or format as the rest of the pictures. All Jpeg with normal filesizes.

I have already posted this question with screenshots, but no answer yet, so another try...

Thanks.

I have looked at your previous questions, jrenders .

iCloud Photo Library stops uploading after a while, ideas?

Cannot pinpoint why some photos upload to icloud and others don't

There are still some facts missing to be able to help.

Did you try Larry's suggestion with the smart album?       Link to this post

Does a smart album with the rule "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library" contain any photos?

What does the Photos > Preferences panel show?  Is there a progress bar?

    You have posted two screenshots:

Thanks! I have taken a look to the pictures which were not uploaded. I have added two screenshots to this post. The first picture IMG_6613 did upload and the second one IMG_6614 did not upload.

No idea why, the picture info is in the screenshot. Do you have any idea why one uploads and the other doesn't? First I thought it was the .jpg extensions in stead of .jpeg extension. However I saw many .jpg did upload.

    Thanks again!

Can you tell us more about the second photo, that does not upload?   Can you edit it? Can you export it?

Try to identify the very first photo that still needs to upload and did not.  Most of your photos will be perfectly o.k., but one bad item could be hiding up the progress. A bad video, or a photo in an unsupported format.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, I have followed Larry's tip, and 2873 photos are in the smart album "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library". So all of the pictures are there.

The status says 'just updated' (might be different wording, I translate this literally from Dutch). So no progress bar.

The second photo I am able to export, edit. It 'handles' exactly the same as the first picture. So no strange characteristics found.

If you mean the very first photo that did not upload should be the first picture in the smart album mentioned before, it is a selfie with an iPhone 4 i jpg format of 133 kb.

The pictures in the smart album are completely random, a few pictures from every event I have uploaded it seems, almost all the pictures were made with the same camera, same settings...

    Thanks

Yes, I have followed Larry's tip, and 2873 photos are in the smart album "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library". So all of the pictures are there.

Then these 2873 photos will never upload.  If Photos lists them as "unable to upload" the format is wrong, the photo is corrupted or missing, or something else is wrong with them.

The photos may have been imported as referenced.  If the originals are not stored in your Photos Library but referenced outside the library, Photos cannot upload them to iCloud.  enable all options in the menu "View > Metadata, i.e. Referenced Files".  Are you now seeing arrow badges in the lower left corner of the thumbnails in the browser?

If that should be the case and you are seeing arrows, select one of the photos in the "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library" and use the command "File > Show referenced File in Finder".  Can Photos show the file, or do you get an error message?

If Photos can reveal the file, select more photos in the "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library" album, then use the command "File > Consolidate" to move the original files into your Photos Library.

But if the you do not see arrow badges, and the photos are not referenced, look at the photos in the Finder.  Export the first photo in "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library" with "File > Export > Export original file".  Try to open it in Previw and to edit it there. Is that possible?

    Hi,

I have followed your advise. I do not see the arrows in de bottom left corner of any pictures in the "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library" album after selecting all options in Metadata.

I have exported all 2873 photos to a folder on my desktop through "File > Export > Export original file". Only 51 of those 2873 photos gave an error that they do not exist, so for those pictures the mystery is resolved. But the other 2818 export just fine and you can edit them in Preview.

    Thanks

Delete the photos from iPhoto, that cannot be exported. Then try again, if the photos will now start to sync.

Thanks for all your help. I have deleted those pictures, nothing happened, but then I deleted the rest of the pictures as well and imported them again. All photos are uploaded now.

    Thanks!
