To boot from the original install DVD, You insert the disk and hold down the C key.  Are you getting your hard drive and a drive saying EFI when holding down the option key? Can you still boot to your operating system? Have you tried Command Option R at startup?  Here are some of the startup screens for Mac.  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204156 Do you know if you have FileVault enabled?

If you did not set or do not remember your firmware password. You would have to take it to the apple store to have it reset. Unless your user password or your apple id password will work. Is there anyone who has or has had access to your computer?  There is one option that sometimes works. If you remove one memory stick and then restart. some time this will clear it. Then reinstall the memory stick.

OK so removing one of the memory sticks do work, and so when go to the utilities firmware password is not active at this time is that do to the removal of the memory stick or could that have been a error with my mac requesting it in the first place?

It's an old work arround. Sometimes it work and sometimes not. It resets the firmware to not be password protected. If the DVD drive will not work using the C key . But you still have access to recovery now. You can use disk utilities to erase the indented  drive and the go back to recovery and reinstall. That is a fresh install. Otherwise ,you can also just run reinstall from recovery and it will keep any personal files you have. It is best to use ethernet when doing this as it is faster and more stable.
