Q: iMessage read reports change from read to delivered

In the last couple of weeks I've noticed that when I send an iMessage from my iPhone 6 to my best friend, it first shows as delivered, as usual. She then reads it and it'll show as read. Then I'll go back into message later and it's turned back to delivered again, as tho the imessage hasn't been read at all.

Does anybody have an idea as to why its doing this?? Or what I can do to correct this???

Thank's in advance!!

Send Read Receipts can be changed by the receiver, it cannot be controlled by you.

The receiver isn't doing anything!! If I send another iMessage the first one goes back to showing as read. surely once it shows as read, whether the recipient changes their read reports to on or off, it won't change from read back to received and vice versa??!

True, but what's your problem then. The Read is confirm and delivered.

Why does it do it?? i see it's read, then go back in later and I question myself as to whether it was read or was it another thread I was looking at!! It makes no sense!!!

That's good to know. I will try it next time if I have the same problem. But I still haven't figured out what causes it.

I'm so pleased it's not just me that this is happening to. Still happening on my phone, and not found a fix. I am manager of a mobile shop and neither myself or my team can work out what's going on!

I have noticed the SAME thing on a few texts. I saw it DID say read. I went back to look at it again later and it went back to read. kind of annoying. One of the people likes to avoid certain things and this is my way of seeing it was really read. They are not smart enough to turn it off yet. LOL

I just turned my phone off and on. IT WORKED!! I took a screen shot to show when they read it. thanks or posting!

The same thing has been happening to me too since I downloaded iOS 9.3, and the problem wasn't fixed in 9.3.1. Mine does what y'all are talking about, but then it even goes a step further and messes up the notifications when they're read if I double text. For example

    4:12 "blah blah blah"

              - read 4:16

    4:14 "blah"

              - delivered

Even though they were both sent before being read at 4:16, only the first message says that it was read.

I Contacted Apple about this the other day and did the following troubleshoots

          - turn off iMessage, hard reset (hold and home) - no avail

          - reset network settings - No avail

          - delete whole message thread with the contact it was happening with - no avail

the apple supervisor suggested that it was the recipients phone. He did all the same troubleshooting steps I did and nothing worked. I'm waiting for the apple supervisor to return my call with the next step, but I'm glad I'm not alone! Being on the phone with them for an hour started to make me feel like a crazy person and like I was making it up!

I'll send updates as my personal saga continues in hopes that it'll help all of you suffering with this problem

That is all possible. But it happens to more than one recipeint so I don't think it is just the recipients phone. I have had this happen to a few sifferent people. When i turned my phone off and on last night it fixed the message back to when thy first read the text. But who knows. Minor detail but can be annoying. If that is the sign of a crazy person, we are all screwed! Lol It is def not just you! Good luck!

The supervisor helping with my case said she had no idea what to do next. I told her about this thread and that others started having problems with this around the time iOS 9.3 was released. And she said that she would be forwarding it to the apple engineers on Monday (their servers were down when she called me back). Hopefully this will be over soon!

Ive been speaking to a apple supervisor for the past two weeks about it. They made me restore my phone to factory settings and start a new thread while the phone was basically like new, that didn't help either. I then restored my back up to the phone and that didn't help either. It's happening on both my iPad and my iPhone now and I've been told by the supervisor it may be a operations problem or it could be a software problem they don't know what it is. When I told him there are other people having the same problem he told me that is not possible otherwise they would be aware of it. I know it's a minor problem but it's the most annoying one trust me.

Anybody have any updates on this yet?
