Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

    Hello benm1972,

After reviewing your post, it sounds like the touch screen on the iOS device is unresponsive. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

I have a case with a screen protector. I remove the device from the case once a week and clean both the device and the case. It's not dirty. The device has the same problem even out of the case.

I've done the backup and restore. It seemed to work for about half a day. Now it just as bad as it was a couple days ago. Yesterday, after doing the restore, it also had a small white and grey line, about three pixels wide, horizontally across the top of the screen. It only did it a few times. I tried taking a screen shot of it but it didn't appear in the screen shot.

I had the same issue on my iPhone 6 Plus 64 Gigs. The touchscreen intermittently becomes unresponsive since the day I restored from from my old iPhone 5 backup. I also had an additional issue:  sometimes - I could see some vertical bars being displayed on the top right corner of the screen.  The only way to recover is to press the power button and then again press home.

I contacted Apple support via the above link (https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action) and initiated a service chat. Support person was really helpful, and I was asked to do the following:

    1. Backup to icloud from the iPhone (Not to the PC).
    2. Once backup is complete, connect iPhone to Itunes.
    3. Restore your iphone back to factory settings, i was provided this link: Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
    4. Important: You need to use the "Restore iPhone" option and not the "Restore Backup" option that is available under Backups
    5. Once your iPhone is restored, you would be presented with options to restore from the icloud backup.

Once restored, everything was fine.. Haven't faced any issues with the touchscreen after that

    Hope this helps someone..

    Thanks..

Thanks. But i feel extremely let down by Apple because of this. I've had to change my Iphone 6 plus once already as the half of the screen suddenly went dark (dimness on right side of the screen). Brought it in after backing it up and was told they couldnt fix it. So they gave me a replacement.

Now barely into 2 months, the replacement is having intermittent screen problems. Unresponsiveness, delayed responses that mess up my app settings, etc.

I switched to Apple for a better user experience. But I'm not just getting it.

I Had the same issue. My iPhone 6 Plus worked excellent for about 8 month. Then the screen became unresponsive and horizontal white line would flicker on the top of the screen. I drove and hour to the Apple Store on saturday and was told that they had seen the issue one time and replace my phone. As I was walking through the mall the brand new replacement began having the exact same issues. I took it back to the Apple Store and showed the tech. He took it to the back room and about 20 min later came out and told me that they opened the phone and had tightened the display cable. The phone seemed to work so I left and drove an hour home. the same day the phone started failing again. I wasn't able to go back until Monday and they replaced the replacement. I'm suspecting that this issue more widespread then what apple will acknowledge. and I wasn't able to convince the apple employee to hook me up with some beats for my trouble. Lol

I am having this same issue, unresponsive, lines at the top, etc.  Very disappointing as I just had the phone fixed less than two months ago for a faulty image stabilizer.  I'm starting to wonder about Apple's quality after this iPhone 6 Plus has had various problems.

Having the same problem. After Apple replaced my original 6 a couple of weeks ago, for display going all blue, the new one's display is now flaking out with vertical lines and blank areas. I'm bringing it back to the Apple Store tomorrow.

I wanted to followup on my last post.  The "fix" I pointed out appears to be only temporary.  The problem kept occurring each time my phone went to sleep...I would have to apply the pressure to get it to respond to a key touch and then I could use the phone.  Ultimately I brought it to the nearest Apple Store and they replaced the iphone on the spot.  They were well aware of the issue.  So the pressure trick will work to get you into your phone and get it to respond in a bind...but it is definitely not a long term solution.

I just brought it into my Verizon dealer.  It was under warranty and they swapped it out. It's been happening...it's a real thing.  So far the new one is working fine.  I thought it was interesting that it could be "bent", I only keep my phone in my front pockets, however I am in and out of cars all day at the dealership I work at and do put torque on the phone.  I do also keep it in a Mophie juice case...so I doubt I bent it, but can't completely rule it out.
