Q: Cannot install aht on imac 7,1 running 10.9.5
I have intermittent hangs and slowdowns on imac 7,1 vintage 2007. Hoping that there is a simple cheap way to keep this thing running. Thinking that AHT might be the diagnostic to try. But am having issues installing it. Tried booting up holding D key and then opt D but just goes to login window. The volume/hddrive/System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics/ folder does not exist. Created a usb stick loosely based on instructions at http://rivenbyfive.blogspot.com/2012/01/download-and-run-apple-hardware-test.htm l. Boot results in showing the usb stick but selecting it fails to run the hardware test. Other resources to hand are the complete (defective) install discs for Snow Leopard and Panther disc #2.
Could install Yosemite - only takes over THIRTY-SIX hours to download. (Thanks apple)
