Q: Folders ending with ".com" can't be opened anymore

The only app that comes to mind is the "NameChanger" app: https://mrrsoftware.com/namechanger/

Mac App StoreMy feeling is something is telling your Mac that .com is a valid extension. It was for DOS/Windows. Was more or less like .exe. Do you have Boot Camp or one of the Virtualization programs installed? Or did you?

Last year I had boot camp and the Virtual Box also but I uninstalled them.
Never noticed any issues like this with them though.

Could installing a printer driver cause the issue?
Would you say even a WP Plugin on a local installation could be the cause?

I don't know.
i do wonder why you have Tuxera, Paragon and MacFuse installed at the same time. Also, I don't believe Perian is compatible with OSX 10.11.3. I imagine you may have other none compatible software installed as well.

Is there way to find out a list of all my incompatible software or software that can cause issues?

Mar 2, 2016 12:52 PMby Drew Reece,You can read NTFS formatted disks on OSX by default - you just can't write to them. Write support is added via NTFS3G or NTFS for OSX. MacFuse uses those as plugins. Having both plugins installed seems unwise to me.
MacFuse is out of date & has moved over to a new version called OS X Fuse.
Personally I'd remove them all unless you need write support on NTFS disks. See the developers site to remove them correctly or right click & select 'remove preference pane'.

I think that is a reasonable approach. You'll want to disconnect any NTFS drives as you do this.
Paragon & Tuxera have commercial products that do the same thing - it is unclear to me if they are more stable or better supported etc. Tuxera make it confusing to find the free version of NTFS3G (which they also made), so it may be easier or safer to pay for it.
