Q: will my devices sync if I disable icloud

I am fed up with the iCloud continually telling me it cannot back up, my memory is low, blah, blah, blah.

I have gone in through settings and turned off every app with the exception of contacts and still I have less than 1 Gig of memory.

I want to turn it off completely. I back up my MBP to a multi TB drive - I don't need the cloud.

QUESTION - I love the ability of my various devices to talk to one another. Make an appointment on the phone - bingo it is also on my MBP.

if I disable or remove iCloud - will my devices continue to talk to one another?

Frustrated at Apple.

iPhone 5, iOS 9.2.1, applies to iPad and MBP

Simply turn off backup. It's only one feature that iCloud provides.

    Settings> iCloud > Backup = off

No they won't. The syncing is done through iCloud (see Settings > ICloud > Contacts, Calendars, etc on the phone and Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud on the Mac).

A MacBook does not and cannot backup to iCloud. If the message you are getting is referring to an iPhone or iPad not being able to backup to iCloud and you want to turn off those backups, you can do that via Settings > iCloud > Backup.

The following may help you find and deal with whatever it is that is occupying your iCloud storage: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

If not, you may be able to get more help here in dealing with that.
