Q: I can't install windows 7 on Mac Pro 2008

Hello,

I must be doing something wrong as I can't install windows 7 on my Mac pro, 2008. I get the apple logo on a white background, when I followed the Boot camp steps. Then the Mac hangs would not continue with the installation after the first restart.

Anyone had this experience, is it a no no for windows 7 on Mac Pro?

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

From Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support, your MP 2008 supports W7.

Are you using BC Assistant and a physical W7 DVD to install Windows?

    Thanks

This is what I did, forgive me, I am not a pro with Apple Mac pro

    1. I used the boot Camp and a 8GB usb flash drive to download the windows drivers as instructed

    2. I also downloaded the apple support zip stuff off

    Mac Pro
    (Early 2008)
    44DVDDVDDVD

then on the same usb that has the downloadable windows drivers (2); I replaced the boot camp folder of (2) with the extracted folder  boot camp downloaded as zip from (3) - hope this makes sense.

    3. Then, with a windows 7 installation disk in the drive and adjust usb drive, I set out to install windows 7 on the mac pro or not.

    4. I started boot camp again, this time unchecked the download windows support drivers, but checked install windows 7 or later box.

    5. Proportioned the HDD with the divider

    6. Then the mac restarted after routine check (i.e. windows 7 disk in drive and usb flash drive plugged in)

    7. Mac hangs with the apple logo on a white background

You do not need the USB with Windows Support Software on it connected during the initial installation. It should be disconnected.

It confuses the Mac and the Windows installer if you have both USB and the DVD. Since you already have the Windows BC Drivers on the USB, run BCA, insert the Windows DVD, and once it is recognized, check the last box to Install Windows. After the installation completes, Windows will run with generic drivers. Now connect the USB with drivers you downloaded, and run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder on the USB.

You may have to remove the current BC partition, and start this process,

    or,

the other option is to insert the DVD, shutdown the MP and  power it back up and hold the Alt/Option key, select the Windows installer, and select the existing Windows partition and install Windows.

    Thanks again

DVD with windows 7 only in drive, MP still hanged with the apple logo on the white background, after restart.

I shutdown the MP, with windows 7 DVD in the drive, powered it up, pressed the Alt/Option key,

selected the windows 7 DVD , MP displayed insert bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key

If you select the DVD, it is bootable. What are the other devices connected when you select the DVD to boot from?

I have heard that you cannot install windows 7 anymore to mac with bootcamp. I had the same problem as you had. You must install windows 8 or 10. Im not totally sure if windows 8 works but im pretty sure it works. Go ahead and install windows 10 it works. This Loner T told me a while ago when i was installing windows 7 to my macbook that windows 7 is not supported with bootcamp.

These are the partitions on your disk. Is there a single disk in your MacPro? Does the Windows Installer come up when you select the DVD using Alt/Option?
