Q: iOS 9.2 iCloud backup still not fixed!!!

So I've been plagued with the Backup could not be completed problem and I've been waiting for Apple to release a fix and I was happy to see this problem mentioned as one of the bugs dealt with in iOS 9.2, BUT it was not actually fixed!

Now my phone is not backed up at all after all Apple geniuses advised that I delete older backups from iCould and try again, my MacBook storage is too small to carry my 128gb iPhone backup and now if my phone dies for some reason all my life is gone with it, well most of it!

Tried backing up my iPhone to external storage but Apple won't let you do that cause we are freaking slaves and not free to do what we want, so now I hope they would finally listen and address this issue that has been mentioned many times before!!!!

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.2, 128 GB

I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 9.2.1. I can do manual backups but my phone will not do automatic backups when i charge it overnight. Same issue?

Same issue. The phone will not back up sitting on the charger overnight. The numbers move but the backup never completes. I might get a backup once a week if I'm lucky. Complete frustration with apple.

if you download "iPhone control panel", log in to your iCloud, delete the backup there you will be able to do on device manual backups again, not sure about auto backups overnight but use a step in the right direction at least.

    good luck

Auto backup working also, done one this morning on my 5s

Ps: you do need a good connection to your router/modem or it will fail.

Did you try the change password trick? I took another path, but kind of did the same thing. I used itunes to back up settings only, then only restored the settings (I didn't wipe the phone). I'm guessing that process overwrote and corrected the pw file in the phone. Thanks to the person who just tried chaging the PW to make that broken unknown file updated.

I tried the password trick and didn't do anything!

Now at 18 weeks without backup, I'm going to ask Apple for a refund of what I paid for iCloud storage!

    I found a solution!

What I did was go into iCloud on my iPhone, scroll all the way down and Signed Out.

Be careful when it prompts you what to do with your Notes, Contacts, and Browser Data - press Keep it on the phone instead of deleting.

THEN, when it signs out, simply sign back in again, it will prompt you whether you would like to merge the information, tap on Merge, and that's it, go into backup and press backup, it will take few minutes to calculate everything and will start backing up your phone.

ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR CONTACTS ALL SAVE TO iCLOUD and NOT Gmail. I had my contacts in iCloud menu ON, and when my google account was hacked I lost ALL my contacts on my phone, so to test this - sign out of your Gmail accounts, keep the contacts on the phone, then disable contacts in icloud, then re-enable the contacts there, this way you will force your contacts into the icloud and they wont simply display whats on your phone

ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR ADBLOCKERS ARE OFF, THEN POWER CYCLE YOUR WIFI, this could be a simple communication error

Dr. Krane, I'm glad you found a solution.  However if you will notice in the many pages on this discussion, most of us have tried the iCloud logout / login procedure you are describing months ago.  This is an easy trick certainly worth trying, but it is not a common solution.

Recently I have spoken to 2 more Apple Support technicians and higher level engineers; they all keep trying to get me to fully restore my phone over and over to cure the iCloud backup.  They admit to me that the iCloud data in the server can become corrupted, but they have not offered solutions that diagnose server side data.  It's been quite frustrating even though all the Support staff are nice to talk to.  They seem to ignore the fact that, after I "delete" my backup in the cloud, my iPhone still shows the backup being there with 0 KB size regardless of logging in / out of iCloud.  To me, this is tell-tale server data issue.  I have done the full iPhone erase and tried iCloud backup with a virgin phone (after taking a few pictures to have something to backup).  It still gives "The last backup could not be completed. // Last backup: Never" error on a virgin erased phone.  So I just restore from PC iTunes and carry on with the weekly notification that my phone is not using iCloud backup for nearly 4 months.

Yep like many others this iCloud backup is a joke. It works ok on my iPhone 6 Plus but my iPad 2nd gen it stopped working automatically many many months ago. Never does it when locked, on charge and on wifi. God knows why. I tried all the tricks but it just doesn't happen. I can do a manual one if I kick it off which works say 50% of the time. And it's slow, slow, slow. Blatantly an apple server issue!

Anyone tried turning off "find my iphone" in Settings-iCloud-scroll down to "find my iphone" and turn it off? I dont know what I did, but I couldnt back up to icloud or itunes earlier... then I un-install my itunes and redownload the latest version.. tried a few times, shutting down my pc, and my phone.. in the end i get to signal my itunes to back up... and a pop up asked me to turn off "find my iphone". I did and back up ran smoothly.. then after i reset my phone(as new-which was my first intention to do) and restore.. my icloud back up ran smoothly as usual.

Add me to the list.  I have been unable to backup my mom's 4S for over 21 weeks since she didn't have wifi at home and it wasn't working on the 4S.  I thought the problem would be solved when I got her a 6.  Now I realize it's software glitch but is it because I haven't been able to backup her 4S for a long time?  Does this mean I will never be able to backup her phone - this is crazy.  I tried everything else including a full restore from backup on desktop:

    - updated software to 9.2

    - logged out of icloud and relog back in

    - deleted network and restoring with a different network

    - backup to my desktop with icloud turned off and restored as new phone and using backup on my desktop

I don't know what else to do.  It doesn't work.  APPLE FIX IT.

**EDIT**:  OMG it's finally working.  iCloud is now backing up.  I just left it alone while typing this post and voila!  It's finally doing something.  Maybe the phone was overworked.  I did notice it a little on the warm side earlier.  The 6 is connected to itunes but it just started to work on it's on.  Fingers crossed it will be completed.  May be an hour or so as I haven't been able to do an iCloud backup in a long time.

I believe Apple has stopped buying office supplies for it's employees about 3 months ago.

Hey guys, it appears the 9.3 patch that came out this week has totally fixed my problem.

Please try the 9.3 patch and try a manual backup.  See pic.

Gold to hear. Mine was fixed on 9.2 after being broken for weeks. At some point, it started working again. Maybe some servers were patched and some weren't at the time. This could be a universal fix then.
