Q: MBP 2013 - Slow, Heating Up & Battery Drain
I have an early 2013 MBP with Retina Display (8gb RAM). I've noticed that over the last few days my laptop has not been holding it's charge and it's been slow. Applications such as email and imessage have been slightly slower to respond. I also have noticed that the actual laptop is a lot warmer than normal. I haven't downloaded any new applications in quite a while with the exception of allowing Adobe Creative Cloud monthly subscription to expire. Any ideas what could be causing the issue???
Within the last 6 months I had the logic board replace due to a part malfunction.
I did notice that in Activity Monitor that for memory usage, Kernel_Task is running high at 835.4MB consistently.
Here is a EtreCheck Report I just ran:
EtreCheck version: 2.9.9 (260)

if you noticed you Mac become slower after Ram installed, could be linked to that
When using your Mac, what apps do you usually work with ? MS Office > Adobe > other 3rd Party installed , or only the Preinstalled Apps
Kernel task that you Mentioned running @ 800MB is normal
Battery issues
1. Go to logo > about this Mac > system Report
2. under Hardware, double tap > Power > check the following
3. Battery Health Information (condition) (cycle count)
4. if the condition is normal > no issues with Battery
5. if cycle count is over 800 then it your Macbook Battery is reaching Max Battery cycle
see Below for more info

When Troubleshooting an issue in Mac os , you try to determine if the issue is user specific or system wide
1. open all the usual apps > take note of any apps that hang on opening (freeze system)
2. open Activity Monitor > Check CPU for high usage % > Check Memory for high usage %
3. Take note of any app or process using over 1GB of CPU or over 1GB or Memory
4. Restart Mac in Safe Mode, holding shift when restarting until an logo appears
Safe Mode checks your Hard drive , also prevents necessary software from opening
You can use safe mode to help you resolve issues in Mac os that might keep your Mac working as expected or from completely starting up.
Test in Safe Mode
1. open the apps you most use
2. take note of any apps that hang on opening (freeze system)
3. open Activity Monitor > Check CPU for high usage % > Check Memory for high usage %
4. Take note of any app or process using over 1GB of CPU or over 1GB or Memory
if Your Mac behaves the same in Safe Mode
Restart >
1. open system preferences
2. go to Users & group
3. Create a new admin user account
4. login to new user > Test
if the problem you report , occur in your own user & Safe mode , but not in the new user
The issue is then user specific > something in your user library > causing the issues
if the above is the case > Backup your files > restart in Recovery > reinstall
