Q: iMac login problem

For the last month I have found that sometimes when I try to log into my account on iMac, the computer fills in an incorrect password all own its own (making a noise similar to the noise that happens if you inadvertently lean on the keys).  It's not just on my account - the same thing happens for other users.  The only way to log in is to switch off the wireless keyboard and turn it on again. Help please!

    Hi

can totally understand that must be frustrating , not been able to actually login, having to shut down & restart each time is a pain also

    This should resolve your issue

    1. shut down iMac ,

    2. disconnect power cord from rear of Display ,

    3. disconnect any usb devices , this resets the SMC

    leave disconnect for 30 secs,

remove the Batteries from Your Keyboard

replace with new , or place original back in

reconnect only the power cord, and only essential usb devices i.e (keyboard - Mouse)

turn on wireless keyboard > once power button flashes Blue

    power on Mac

you should then get a wireless setup wizard to pair your keyboard

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
