If this iPod has a click wheel, there is a setting, fittingly called Repeat.  Go to the iPod's (onboard) Settings screen.  Look for the Repeat setting and select it.  One means the current song repeats.  All means the current list repeats.  Off means no repeating.  Make sure it is NOT set to One.

If the iPod is more recent, with a touch screen interface, please post back.

HI, I have a touchscreen and have the same problem. I can't find where the repeat setting is! I've checked everything and can cancel a song, delete a song etc

Which iPod with touchscreen?  6th gen iPod nano, 7th gen iPod nano, or iPod touch?  It's a bit different for each, but the setting for Repeat is on the Now Playing screen (what you see when playing a song).  The button looks like two arrows in a loop.
