Q: iMessage Conversations Erased Switching From BootCamp to OS X
Hello,
I was using iMessage on my Mac Pro (2009) and I wanted to switch to Boot Camp for keeping my Windows OS up to date.
So I enable BootCamp and switch to the hard drive I have the OS installed on, then when I was finished, I "restarted in OS X." At first, the computer restarted to the another drive I have with the older OS X version on it (Boot Camp likes to default to this drive). I then restarted my computer one more time for my SSD that I currently use for everything. However, whenever I first logged into the SSD, I kept on receiving an "iCloud linking error" and I had to re-input my credentials for iMessage. When I logged back in, it only showed two of the previous conversations that I had, the rest were gone.
I used the terminal command and found the conversations are stored in the Messages folder, but not all of the active conversations (except two) are in my iMessage.
Is this a common issue with El Capitan?
Please note: I have four hard drives in my Mac Pro: one SSD for main OS X, one HD for previous OS X, one HD for Windows and one HD currently blank.
If you all could help me out, I would be extremely grateful.
Thank you!

Hi,
I have a Firewire Drive and a USB drive both with multiple partitions so that i can boot in older versions of the OS and have a Time Machine Partition.
Whilst I don't swap that often Messages in another boot is always as I left it as in the main Drive when I boot back to the current OS.
In System Preferences > iCloud there is nothing about syncing the ID used there with iTunes, App Store, FaceTime or Messages.
Whilst the Apple ID in Messages used for the iMessages account has to be an iCloud ID it does not have to be "THE" iCloud ID.
That's not so say that occasionally that they will not be issues checking the password of the current iMessages ID.
iMessages that have been sent to your Mac are either on the Mac or they are not.
They are deleted from the Server once the Mac has them (same for other devices).
As each device logs in with combo of ID/Password or iPhone with it's Serial Number then iMessages can not be "swapped" between them if some are missing.
If in the General Section of the Messages Preferences you are Saving on Close you have to make sure the app is closed before Shutting the OS down.
What can happen is that you lose the ability to Read or Write to some files and these can be iMessages or Saved Chats.
