Q: Want to reinstall Yosemite

Hello,

Where can I find a copy of Yosemite to re-install on my Imac?

I did not have a system backup pre-upgrade and I absolutely need to remove El Capitan from my computer because some of my work software are no longer working. I have no CD copy of yosemite, no installer whatsoever....

Thanks!

Pascale

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Yosemite has been discontinued and replaced by El Capitan.  If you have had Yosemite installed before, you can then revert to it.  It should be in your App store account.  If you have not had Yosemite installed before, you cannot get it.

When you check your App store account, make certain that you also look into 'hidden purchases'.

    Ciao.

    Thanks for the tip.

I had a copy in the app strore, downloaded it, but the computer says the installer is too old and cannot be installed.

Its less than one year old.

This is unbelievable. An Apple OS that cannot be removed.

    :-(

*** backup with time machine before proceeding ****

make a bootable installer for 10.10

Create a bootable installer for OS X - Apple Support

reboot, reformat your drive and install OS 10.10. You can not downgrade on top of an OS older than the one you are trying to install, you need to wipe the drive or use another.

If the install fails use the backup to restore your data, do not go forward with any of this until you have backed up!

In order to install an older OSX than the one you have now, you have to erase  the HDD.

I did that yesterday, but then using the recovery mode, the computer only suggested I do a re-install of El Capitan.... Where is the option to use an other OS?

There is the suggestion from JimmyCMPIT to create a bootable installer. I can certainly try that!

Restart into Internet Recovery (Command+Option+R). You should see a spinning globe with a progress bar underneath. Be patient as this will take some time to boot. Make sure you have a good Internet connection. This will boot to Apple's Recovery servers and let you reinstall the most current version of OS X that came pre-installed when you purchased your Mac. A late-2013 may have come with OS X Mavericks pre-installed.
