Q: Unlock my iPhone 5s (SIM) to use it in Canada
Hi there,
I'm writing from Chile, and I'm going to live in Canada for 1 year, so I need to get my iPhone available to use it with a SIM of that country.
I asked in my actual carrier (Entel) and they said that there is nothing to him to do with this topic, so I'm asking here, please.
Thanks a lot!
Karina.

First of all there is no IMEI unlock. Any one who has told you this is either offering a "scam" service or an iPhone hack or jailbreak (which is not a good idea).
That being said, and restating what Kappy has said, only the carrier can unlock your phone; Apple does NOT unlock phones. Entel does offer unlocking according to the carrier list document linked in this response. But whether they charge, or have specific contract requirements; that you will have to find for yourself with the carrier. The answer the Entel rep gave you is mistaken or they are outright lying. It does have to do with Entel as only Entel can approve an initiate the unlock process. I suggest you go back to Entel, and if you get the same response, ask to see/speak with a supervisor or ask that your request be escalated up the chain. This is not the first time that some tech support guy at a carrier is ignorant of what iPhone unlocking entails.
