Mar 7, 2016 9:41 AM in response to Natalie Raichlby Meg The Dog,★HelpfulAre you operating on Mavericks as your post says? Can you play the files back in Quicktime 7? You may need to upgrade your software to support the new codecs - but anyway, to use in FCP-7:
You will need to convert the source files to ProRes prior to ingest in FCP7.
EditReady is good for this:

The resulting files will be huge.
Your other option is to switch to more modern software that supports the files directly - such as FCP-X or Premiere Pro.

Barely. It might struggle. That's the very outer reaches of it's design. It was discontinued 5 years ago, at the very beginning of 4K popularity.

Mar 14, 2016 10:10 AM in response to Meg The Dogby Natalie Raichl,Thanks, all for the info. I was able to download the latest pro app, and now can import the Sony files into FCP 7. However, the computer does really struggle with the size of the file. The conversion to Pro-Rez works better, but still right at the edge of capability. I think the best option is to upgrade the system to a new computer and FCP X, if this is going to be a regular edit.
