Q: iPod nano 3rd. generation not turning on when not plugged in

- So I have not used my iPod nano 3rd. generation model for a few months -

(1) Problem is that it does NOT turn on when it is not plugged in and I just charged it overnight plugged into the wall.

(2) Yes it does show up in iTunes when I plug it into my laptop and thankfully the music playlists are still there.

Thanks for your help.

That iPod us getting old, so the likely cause a worn out battery that is no longer able to hold a charge, after iPod is disconnected from power.  Leaving a lithium battery in a discharged (empty) state for an extended period can also cause it to not hold a charge.  Possibly a combination those two factors.

    Hi Kenichi,

    Thanks for your response.

So you are saying that I need to replace the battery? I can make a Genius Bar appt. at the store here in Berlin and they can do it for around $60 euros I think then...

A 3rd gen iPod nano is no longer serviced by Apple (because too old).  However, if you do an Internet search, you may be able to find independent electronics repair shops in your area with Apple expertise, who can do the work.

If you are technically inclined, this web site has repair guides.  And the part is available from online sources.

However, for an iPod nano, replacing the battery requires desoldering the existing battery connections and soldering the replacement battery.
