Q: MacBook Pro Hardware Failure?
Greetings all,
I was using VLC to watch a movie last night, when suddenly my screen glitched out, then went grey.
I forced quit the OS, then rebooted. Upon reboot, the apple chime sounded, but when the apple symbol
showed up, there were small red lines through it, and the grey background had a tinge of green to it.
This screen persisted for a few minutes with the spinning wheel underneath the apple logo, then finally
the screen went straight grey. Upon starting it up in Safe Mode, and in Command R, a deep blue screen
with tiny vertical lines appears. I also tried resetting the P RAM as per Apples instructions, but this did
nothing to fix the issue.
The Apple support tech told me I likely had a hardware problem. The issue I'm having now is that I'm working
on the road, and I'm not near a city that has an Apple store. There are authorized Apple techs in the city I'm
working in, but they charge an arm and a leg just for a diagnostic, plus whatever the cost of the fix will be.
My question to you fine Apple Support Community folks is, has anyone else had this issue, and if so do you
have any advice for me?
One more note, the MacBook is an i7 and it's a 2011 model. I recently upgraded from OS 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion
because I got an iPhone 5s, and It was not compatible with 10.6.8. Not sure if that has any bearing on my issue, but
I thought I'd bring it up.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as my MacBook is the hub for a lot of business I do. Therefore, I am sad
Thanks,
Cameron
