Q: Service for Mid 2010 MBP (Vintage)

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro was this week added to the vintage line up of Macs.Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support

I need to get my wifi card replaced.

Will there be a period where Apple can still serve these for the next few weeks before they completely stop or am I just gonna have to DIY with parts bought online?

Why do you believe that you need the WiFi card enabled?

You can get one through iFixit -> https://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2010-Airpor t-Bluetooth-Board/IF161-063

Had the MLB replaced twice - Quality Program for the GPU failure a few years ago. They messed first repair. After the second repair wifi became very unreliable - very high noise and RSSI on any network.

Have done a full restore and booted from known good drives. Wifi connects if I am on top of any router but move a meter away and it drops.

    Same on 10.9 - 10.11

Passes the AHT - but my understanding is this is just a  presence test.

So by my reckoning the card is present but not functioning correctly or the cable to MLB is damaged or not seated correctly.

I could do myself but am wondering if Authorised service providers or Apple will continue to service a recently added vintage  product for even a few weeks and I'll just get them to do it instead.

    Thanks for your reply

My experience has been that Apple store genius bars will evaluate the MBP, but not offer to repair it.  Make an appointment so that you will know exactly what has to be done (though not by Apple).

    Ciao.
