Q: lpadmin group not found

Hello

I have a mac running os x 10.8.5.

Somehow it has managed to delete its lpadmin group.

This means I cannot add printers to this machine as it wants authorisation from a member of the lpadmin group, but whenever I try to add anyone to this group terminal returns a "group not found" message.

Google doesn't reveal many results, seems to be mainly linux results. The one result I did get referring to macs said to reinstall the OS. This machine is the teaching machine for a busy classroom so this isn't a practical solution (not that such a drastic action should be required for a small problem)

Can anyone tell me how to recreate this group, can I copy the config file with the list of lpadmins across from another machine?

Thanks

You can try opening Utility Directory on a couple of other Mac with the same OS version level. Look for the lpadmin group and search for differences between them. If they are all the same you can try to add the new group on the Mac that is missing it now, with the same attributes.
