Q: I cannot change my watch face from the Modular Face, the 'firm press' is not working anywhere I press.

I have switched my watch faces in the past but now, no matter where I press on the face, I cannot get it to give me the watch face selection menu.  HELP!  THis screen is boring!

    Hi

    It may help to restart your Apple Watch: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag the slider to turn off; then press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

    Check also that you are following the correct process: to choose a different watch face, press firmly on the display when viewing the time on your watch (this option is not available from any other screen or when the screen is not already awake).

    OK, so I am pressing firmly on this one, but this is the 'Modular' screen, so I try to avoid opening the calendar, weather, activity, world clock, but it won't do anything when I firmly press on the time or the whole screen.  I think its a glitch in the modular face....

    To access the watch face customisation options: start by viewing the time on your current watch face, then press firmly on the watch face whilst the screen is still awake.

    Press more firmly than a normal tap, quickly increasing the pressure in the same place (do not stab or poke hard). As you quickly add more pressure, the watch face displayed on the screen will initially begin to "shrink". When you have pressed firmly enough, a Customise button will appear beneath a smaller version (preview) of the current watch face.

    OK, that's not working either.  I press where its not going to open the calendar (or other options) and nothing happens.  If I do what you say above, on the calendar or some other part, it opens that option.  I've restored it earlier, but used the backup, which is not getting me anywhere.  Defect?

    It should not matter where you press.

    If you are using - for example - the default layout for the Modular watch face, pressing firmly on the Calendar complication in the centre of the screen should still give you access to the watch face customisation options.

    Try the process more slowly:

    - Place your finger on the Calendar complication in the centre of the display;

    - Without removing your finger, exert an increasing level of pressure on the display;

    - Do not remove your finger until the screen has "shrunk" - showing the name of present watch face (Modular) at the top and the Customise button at the bottom. A haptic pulse will also confirm when the watch face customisation options have become available.

    If you have not yet done so, it may also help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software versions:

    - Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    - Update the software on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

    If the issue persists, then - given the other steps you have already tried - I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked under warranty:

    I'm always up to date on versions of iOS, so I did a restore and used the backup, didn't work.  I did a restore and no backup, didn't work, and I did a restore after deleting my watch info from my iCloud.  STILL ONLY STARTS UP ON MODULAR WATCH FACE.  They said if they can't fix it they send it out to be repaired.  The genius bar was booked when I stopped by.  This really stinks.

    Thanks for trying, Jonathan.

    It is best to make a Genius Bar reservation in advance of visiting the store:
