Q: Apple TV 4 photo issues

I am on my second day with the new Apple TV 4.  I am not happy with it.

I use my Apple TV a lot to have music on while displaying my pictures when I have people over.  I was hoping that with this new generation Apple would have fixed the issue where pictures repeat themselves way too often and not all pictures in my library are shown.  Instead, it's worse.  I have home sharing on, and I have about 1100 photos shared. On my ATV I choose the shared images folder to be my screen saver.  However, after about 40 images or so, they start all over again and display in the same order again.  This is very annoying.

So I tried going to the shared folder and pressing "Start Slideshow", instead.  What happens with that is that 7 images are shown and then it goes back to the first image and that image stays on the screen until I press something.  I tried it at least 10 times with the same results each time.  The pictures were different each time, but the behavior was the same: after 7 pictures it shows the first picture and leaves it on the screen.

Is anybody else experiencing this?  Is there a way to get the ATV to randomly show ALL my pictures as a screen saver instead of cycling through 40-50 images and then repeating them in the same sequence again?

So did I just spend the past fours years imagining that two different Apple TVs showed me all of the photos that I added to the album I wanted to use for a screensaver? Maybe I was really lucky and had two differenot broken Apple TVs that magically worked better then they were supposed to.

I love this argument you guys have going on.

The beauty of it is that we can all reach across the isle an agree that, currently, the Apple TV screen saver with photos is a POS and that we all hope it gets upgrade (or fixed or whatever you want to call it!)

Like I said i did a survey on the Apple TV for apple and ripped it apart...

Unless you chose an album with around 100 or less photos in, yes I suspect you imagined it. Do you really expect me to believe that I and hundreds of other users imagined the opposite.

**** even the photos app is terrible on every level... just a horrific interface for looking at photos in general...how come when i have apple tv in front of me I have to open my phone and airplay the photos to it as its just easier all the way around.

No I don't agree with that at all.

I accept it would be better if you could have more images in your screensaver, but it's a screensaver, it doesn't make the rest of what the Apple TV does worthless, your response is a complete over reaction.

Which do you think is more likely:

I spent four years imagining that my Apple TV worked better than it actually did

    or

that there was a bug that meant other Apple TVs didn't work as well as they should have?

I'm not denying that you had an issue with your Apple TVs. It seems this whole iCloud photo system is full of bugs. I had different issues with it before. But I wouldn't have spent the past four years curating a collection of photos to use on my screensaver if they didn't actually appear.

I'm pretty sure you are in the VAST minority that thinks that this is a good piece of software... look i'm obviously an apple guy as I'm on here posting but its okay to say a piece of their software *****...

if you are going to build a screen saver that uses photos.. you HAVE to admit that this implementation is extremely poor.... or your saying that doing the same 30 photos starting at the SAME photo in the same sequence is BETTER than randomly going through my full library?  Do you work for the apple TV development team or something??  Why would you be defending this terrible piece of software... (whether it was better before or not it's terrible now)

your argument with Conrad is totally different.. i don't care how it was before... i care that right NOW its terrible and could be massively better.  And you seem to be arguing that its fine and shouldnt be improved which is crazy to me.. but maybe i'm reading it wrong.

I didn't or don't have an issue with my Apple TV, I have 7 and until a few months ago they were all Apple TV 2's and 3's and they all worked the same way. I've been in this community for 8 years now and for the last 5 I've seen hundreds of posts complaining about the screensaver having a limited number of photos. here's one that demonstrates this and spans the period I talk about.

You are clearly over-reacting to the issue, it's a screensaver, no need to stop swearing and exaggerating. I see the number of photos that the screensaver holds keeps shrinking as the thread keeps going. Personally I find it holds about a 100 or so, but according to you it's down to 30. Yes it could be better, but your over reaction does nothing to help your cause it just makes it lack credibility. Provide feedback and move on.

So everyone on that thread too thinks it is a bug and unacceptable. That thread is identical to this one. Nothing in that thread proves that this a special feature, like you keep insisting.

I guess I was lucky with my other two Apple TVs and I didn't experience this bug before.

i'm not "overreacting" i'm having a discussion.  It doesn't ruin my life.. and you may use it differently than me... I have one TV.. it is in the main room everyone hangs out... the screensaver having photos in it is actually a big feature for me... you have no idea how I use my Apple TV so for you to say I'm "clearly overreacting" is pretty condescending.  I have had 3 apple tv generations and, IN MY OPINION (and of many others) this is far and away the worst software interface they have had.

I just don't use that screen saver even though Apple should make it useful.

I have left feedback to Apple and hope it gets fixed/changed/upgraded/useful/wahtever you want to call it.

I have no idea how many photos it is cause it starts with the same ones in the same order for me.. so i rejected it immediately as useless and now have the dumb repeating videos (sure they look pretty but would rather have my pictures)

When you reach the stage that you are prepared to say anything, the discussion isn't worth continuing.

Then we disagree, I believe stooping to swearing and exaggerating are over-reaction when we are talking about a screen saver.
