Q: 2005 IMAC on its way out: Time to clean and toss

When pressing the button on back, I get a solid white light, flashing white light, then a solid tone and the screen turns white but will not display anything?

Any ideas?

    Not good!

     

    I hope you have a backup of what was on the hard drive, which should be removed and destroyed before the iMac is 'recycled'.

    If the hard drive is still working, it should be possible to put inside an external hard drive case and attach to another Mac if you need to try to recover information.  Mind you, many applications are no longer useable, unless you get a comparably old Mac.
