would you please also help me. i have exactly the same problem.

when i tried to download Ei Capitan and i receive a message saying "INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE"

I tried what you suggested about the console; however, i cannot find the /var/folder. i also tried to search it in my Finder, but I also don't see it. i see one called /var/log

    I also don"t see the com.apple.AppStore file.

    what should i do then?

    thank you very much.

    Greetings,

When you're in the Finder Application you can click "Go" in the top menu bar (upper left corner of the screen) and go to /var/folders/ via the "Go to Folder" option at the very bottom.

    Hi Quizhelper,

I was having the same problem as StaceyBee. I trashed the offending file and was able to start downloading El Capitan. However, it's been over an hour and it still appears to be downloading. That doesn't see right to me.....?

    Thanks for your help.

    Greetings,

I'm not particularly sure that this issue is related. This can oftentimes happen if you have a slow or latent internet connection.

I am also getting the "INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE" error and this is what it shows in console:

    3/19/16 2:15:08.387 PM App Store: *** Assertion failure in -[ISDistributionManager verifyDistributionAtURL:allowsDevSign:error:distributionController:], /SourceCache/Pisa/Pisa-93.8/ISDistributionManager.m:163

    Greetings,

You're going to go to this folder here: "file://localhost/var/folders/q6/56zk98td2mnb00k4bg57g12c0000gn/C/com.apple.app store/1018109117/preflight.pfpkg"

You can get there by clicking on the Finder Window then going up to Go in the upper left hand corner then, Go to Folder. That's Finder > Go > Go To Folder and type in /var/folders/ You'll open folder q6 then 56zk98td2mnb00k4bg57g12c0000gn then C and you'll delete the com.apple.appstore file here.

Restart your computer and try again without any issues!

Hi  this is a general response not familiar with protocol

had the same message when trying to upgrade my early 2008 17"MBP running Lion

    Screen Shot 2016-05-02 at 17.49.41.png

    OS 10.7.5

all the suggestions seemed a little complex so after sleeping on it this morning I checked the App Purchases file  I found I had downloaded Yosemite but not installed so I did    and then down loaded and installed El Capitan no problems

It's running ok and USB 3 Express card works but runs a little hot ( it's an AKE 4 port USB 3 card )
